Have a Dakota Digital temp gauge that has been working very accurately until now. It reads 135-140 degrees when my fan comes on that is programed to come on at 180. The temp probe for the gauge is the cylinder head but the probe for the fan is in the water neck. Is it possible that there can be that much of a temp difference in these two areas? Short of the gauge beening bad what could be the problem?

If your temp gauge probe is in the side of your head next to the exhaust, then yes there can be that much difference. But my question is what makes you beleive the gauge is wrong and the programmable fan switch is accurate?? Any variance in the grounding circiut or detoriation of the wiring connections can make a difference in the readings of either part. I would check both units with an outside gauge (manual or electronic hand held gauge) and go from there

I have a screw in gauge in one of the water neck access ports and it reads 180 when the fan comes on, so I think the fan probe is accurate. When this water neck gauge reads 180 the dakota dash gauge reads 135-140. Am thinking of removing the Dakota probe from the head and installing it in the water neck port that the screw in gauge now occupies.
