Where are all the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping folks affected by the floods? Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the Federal Government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks and trailers are?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed Des Moines?

Where is Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high end tennis shoes and big screen TV's?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say he wants to rebuild a 'Vanilla' Iowa, because God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring George Bush hates white rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

MAKES YOU THINK

Seems to me that the people in Iowa and Missouri are more of the type to help themselves than we saw in New Orleans. I don't intend to demean the people in NO, just that I see a different reaction from those in Iowa and Missouri. Doesn't seem these people are demanding handouts, they're just taking care of things the best they know how.

In reality there are few people in our town that are out of thier homes. Maybe 2or3 families. The Hunt drainage District just on the south edge of town is underwater but the farmers that moved back after 1993 have again relocated to higher ground. There is not much that can be done until the water receides. It is going down but will take some time. If only we could figure a way to turn off the rain that falls to our north. I have included some pics of the rock that was added in order to travel into Iowa across the bridge to go to work. The last pic is of the drainage district just prior to the levi breaking.

Gary, I sense you knew the answers to your questions before you wrote them. People in the midwest are the fabric of this nation, they don't walk areound with their hands out, unless it is to grab a sandbag or a shovel. They will take charity as it is offered but they won't go begging or demanding it.

NO was a different matter. It wasn't so much the population demanding Fed help as it was the politicians who for the most part, caused most of the misery to begin with. It was the state and local politicians who failed to respond to the coming emergency and not the Feds or Bush. Hell you never heard half of the whining from the people in Mississippi as you did from the NO people. Some people know how to pick themselves up and get going, while others have been taught to just wait until someone comes to help you up

As to the celebrities, I'd like to see more than a few of them fall off a levee and disappear under the muddy water.
