I have a '63 impala that used to break carrier bearings left and right. The solution given to me was cut out the x-frame and use a one piece. So I did worked out awesome. My cousin has a '64 impala and keeps breaking carrier bearings. he doesn't want to cut the frame up, Any ideas on who makes a stronger one or any way to keep these thing from exploding every time yo jump on it? Any help would be appreciated, maybe you 348/409 guys are doing something. Thanks -G

Check out www.dr409.com Part # 6668 is a heavy duty billet bearing. This should help him out.

I think I'd eliminate it and go to a one piece driveshaft...

We used to pull the rubber out and weld strap from top to bottom, then reinstall the rubber and bearing. They held up with the extra support. Still won't hold up to alot of HP probably.Don't think there's enough clearance in the frame for a 1 piece shaft. That's a long shaft.

Never had one break even after much abuse. Is it possible the pinion angle is too great?

Hey Gengis - That is a good site to do business with. I purchased quite a bit from them when I built the 62 Impala.
