I thought that I knew it all , but..

I need to remove the trim on my 94 chevy pick up to repair a rust spot.

does anyone have any ideas on how to do this and not damage the body? Can the trim be used again or do I need to repkace it? The trim in question is along the lower half of the sides.

This is one of those cases where a factory shop manual on the body is worth its weight in gold. Beyond that, chances are the majority of the side trim is "stick+on"/"glue-on", with the possible exceptions of the very ends of the trim which may have fasteners, and any trim around the windshield and rear window. Just be sure to examine the backside of where the trim is for fasteners before attempting to break an adhesive bond.

I've got one piece that is just starting to curl a bit. Is there any type of adhesive remover to loosen the trim? Or do I pull it off carefully?.....CR

This pertains to the trim on the sides of the truck. It is put on with doubleface foam tape. Most autoparts houses carry the tape. I personally carefully cut the tape with a single edge razor blade while gently pulling on the trim piece. They sell a silicone wheel that can be put in a drill to remove the remainder of the tape and adhesive that in on the truck. The rest of the tape that is on the trim can be removed in the same manor.

A trick I use is use a piece of monofilment line behind it-- lube it with WD-40. You can "saw" through the double sided tape-- and the WD-40 will also cut the adhesive. Be careful not to "saw" into the paint. Just be patient. MC

also try a long flexible bladed putty knife. most of that trim is on with two strips of tape. you can run the putty knife at an angle along the top side & slice the top strip, then do the same on the bottom side.
