I was having trouble with my computer. So I called Eric, a computer whiz from Florida that I met on the internet , whose office, I imagine, looks like Mission Control, to help me. Eric

Clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.



As he was signing off, I asked him, 'So, what was wrong?'



He replied, 'It was an ID ten T error.



'I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, 'An, ID ten T

Error? What's that .... In case I need to fix it again?'



I could hear Eric grinn.... 'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?'



'No,' I replied.



'Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure it out.'



So I wrote down: I D 1 0 T





I used to like Eric.............


I like computers again cause, as of now, it is working for me. Don't know how long it will last

LMAO. I feel your pain. Love my puter when it's workin, hate it when it's not!!!! They can make a grown man cry. The kids don't seem to have a problem, just us old farts.

Just like you guys when I have a problem I ask a neighbor kid. I think that they arent afraid to push buttons and we feel that we will blow things up. A few years ago a customer of mine was telling me that when he first got a computer he took it home and was staring at it. His 6 year old son walked up and said "Dad this is how you turn it on" He told him that he knew that when in in fact he was grateful because he had no idea how. I should have offered to baby sit. My wife bought me a "teach yourself visually" book on computers and all my kids got a big laugh out of it. Dad, I can't believe you don't know how to do that! So I enrolled in a college course on computers. The best thing I ever did..................CR

I don't try to think to hard about the why and how. As long as it works, I'm a happy man. When it dos'nt I ask my grand kids and they fix it for me.

The ID10T error has become too well known in the technology industry. We now use PEBKAC, as in "Oh it was a PEBKAC error, very difficult to resolve".

Before I worked here I worked at a computer store (did marketing and purchasing) and we often heard about the DUP Error


Dumb User Problem


It was fun hearing the tech's come back from a site and seeing their service sheet with DUP in the comments. LOL
