I know I know.... I know all about the vendors on here... everytime anyone wants advice, thats the first response.
I have installed mustII and clips from vendors on here...
My question is car specific and want advice and suggestions from folks who have used the vendors kits and which worked the best and provided a solution to the frame rail problem, with the spring pocket, and weather or not they clipped, made new rails or how they tackled this issue.
I sell AND INSTALL JW Rod Shop kits and love them. built to model and year specs when I order them and always a breeze to install. Great folks to deal with before and after a sale. call me or them. get a kit made for your application
Mike, don't be upset about the sponsors being brought up here. They're the ones footing the bill so the site is free to the rest of us.
My good friend has installed 3 Heidt's front ends in 53-56 F100's and wouldn't even think of installing anything else. This is a guy who 5 years ago wouldn't install anything but a Volare front clip. When he was against a deadline and couldn't find a Volare clip he reluctantly tried Heidt's and will never go back to clips.
Lots of guys have also installed MII's and still prefer clips. I guess it's what you're comfortable with.

mike is talking about the spring pockets in the frame rail . mll do not fit well on cars without straight axles. mike i would either clip it or maybe see if fatman has a front stub for it. i would never even consider a mll on a shoe box.
dont poke the porchdog........he bites

Yea... I know of 99% of the Must II suppliers out there, some of which we have used in the past. Only two that I know of (progressive and Jim Weimer) sell a setup for 53 ford CAR, not truck. Its kind of a odd ball I suppose, a transition period of sorts.
Just looking to see if anyone has tackled this particular year car...
Oh jeez, I totally assumed that this was a TRUCK, sorry Mike! I dig the early 50's Ford sedans too, but nobody every talks about them. Just like when someone refers to a '57 Chevy few people even consider that it could be something besides a turquoise and white Bel Air! LOL

Red, that looks good... anyone here used this particular setup? I have heard mixed feelings about it from others. This is my name on the books with the customer, he is a very respected local car guy, and wants it right, handle well, and aligned and tracked well, which they all should, but trust me, not all do... and if he spends the money on the parts for me to install, we BOTH want to know we have a product that is sufficiant and capable of meeting those standards.
I am not ruling out the clip notion, but he is really wanting a must II setup....
After calling a few places, it may just come down to me making a new front clip and installing a mustang II that is for similar Ford or Merc Vehicles.
I did a FATMAN frame clip on a 57 Ford Fairlane, It was pretty good, but like a lot of stuff you need to measure twice and cut once. Before I removed the original front frame section I built a temporary jig and attached it to the firewall and bolted it to the original frame at the bumper mounting points and the core support. The FATMAN sub. had to have all the bumper mounting holes re drilled in order to use the core support mount in the position FATMAN had it in, and even that was offset to one side about 1/2" and had to be re drilled. I really like the 17-4 stainless control arms but like most aftermarket mustang II control arms the grease boots fit poorly and leak all over the place. The owner moved, but the car is likely to be done soon.

I have had minor problems over the years with vendors parts whether it be TCI, Heidts, or fatmans and most of them are minor. The last sub assy. I used from Fatman was for a 50 Ford started at around 8 in the morning followed the directions set everything level cut and front installed back on car in less than 8 hours. Takes longer to cut up a sub frame or s-10 front and install it. I didn't have to redrill anything radiator support and bumper fit fine and car rode and drove great. Seen it going down the interstate at a fairly high rate of speed and the owner couldn't be happier. Makes no difference to me what you use not my car and I ain't the one doing it.

Hey Mike........from Michigan............When I read your 2nd. post about the vendors on this site, I laughed so hard and when I read it again this evening ....just for fun, I'm still laughing........that's funny stuff.
Mike, I ran into the same thing with my 41 Olds. It is an odd frame width and desingn but a c channel frame. So I fabbed a new front clip and had a MII crossmember built to fit the frame. It ended up 2 inches wider so it required a rack extension but that was supplied with the crossmember. I also built a jig that attched to the firewall to to make sure everything would bolt back up.
Now if I had time to finish the car I could tell you how it handles. (:
+1 ON THE FATMANS SETUP. I THINK HE HAS PUT MORE TIME & MONEY INTO GETTING THINGS RIGHT ON THE POST 48 STUFF THAN ANYONE ELSE. HAD A FRIEND PUT ONE OF THOSE STUB FRONTS ON A 50'S STUDEBAKER & HAD EXCELLENT RESULTS.
