Hey guys,I need some help. i am working on a buddies 39 Ford. It has the original gas tank and filler neck. Ever time he fills with gas,the thing overflows down the side of the car. The original vent tube is still hooked up and seems to overflow after setting for awhile after filling with gas. The tank need not be completely full. Is the cap bad or can a person put vent tube inside fender so as to not run down the fender and remove paint? Any help appreciated. Pat

Hey, Pat. My experience with my '39 is if you're going to fill it, you gotta drive it. If he fills it enough to cover the bottom of the fill tube and lets it sit, it's going to overflow! The cap is good. The tank is vented to the outside through the cap, all cars prior to the evaporative emissions caps and canisters. I've shut the pump of at the first click and even before that when I've heard it gurgling in the filler tube, parked nose down on an incline, and still lost fuel if I was parked in the open/heat. If I'm going to a local gathering, I'll watch the gauge and keep it below Full. On a trip, I'll fill it to the max and then on to the highway - eat first and then fill-up and go.

Hope this insight helps,

Tony from Co.
