Well, I did it. Drove down to Moncton New Brunswick this afternoon and bought me a 1954 Canadian built , Pontiac Cheiftan, 2 dr. post car. It's not totally original but wow , is it gonna be a lot of fun. It has a 305 cu in. v8, turbo 350 tranny, nice sounding dual exhaust, and the underneath is so clean and solid, rust free, nice wheels and new rubber, the interior was redone about three years ago and is about a 6 1/2 on the scale of one to ten (headliner has a couple of stains and the material on the front seat seams a little saggy and could use a good scrubbin') but the dash is really cool, they don't make 'em like that any more eh? As you can see from the pictures that it has a nice ding in the rear quarter but he has all the new chrome and parts required to fix 'er up and also the master cylinder is kaputski. But again he has all the parts to fix that too, as a matter of fact, he was trying to fix the brakes through the access plate in the floorboards, had the carpet turned up, went to move the car in a hurry, the carpet got stuck somehow on the gas peddal, thrusting the car forward ,nailed his wife and clipped the neighbors car then somehow plowed into something to cause the damage in the rear. Bizzar story don't ask me how but it screwed up his wife pretty good and she just wants it GONE so that's why he sold it. I picked 'er up for 7500 bucks, and with a little effort will soon be cruisin' again! Sorry about his wife'n'all but........

Russ, great looking Poncho! That dent should come out pretty well. Might be wise to update the master cylinder to a dual unit for more safety.

Enjoy the ride!

Man I love early 50's Ponchos! Neat purchase for sure! Poor guy, he was just trying to get rid of the wife and instead got rid of the car.

Yes dixie, from what I understand it's a Chevy with Pontiac badging although, seems to me I've heard that the Chevy's were about 4 or 6 inches longer. Anyone know for sure? Also I'm on the lookout for the Passenger side, Rear fender, body side moulding. Any suggestions? And , for you Poncho fans who're trying to talk me into a different motor (Ponch style), believe me , there's nothing I would like more than to have a nicely built 389 Tri-Power mill in there but , i'm sure you know the story....$$$$$$ ! I also did a little research on Pontiac engines and with my car being a 1954 model year, it is period correct to have a Chevrolet engine in there because Pontiac did not start building their own engines until 1956.

The engine on the original would not have been a V8. Chevrolet and Pontiac did not introduce V8's until 1955. Looks like it should be a decent highway cruiser.

Hey Russ, the difference in the Canadian VS US Pontiacs is the wheelbase which the Canadian is shorter. The chassis and drivetrain are Chev, the front fenders are one off's , Which means that trim will be hard to come by. As far as I know the rear trim is interchangeable to both cars.
