When painting a four-piece hood, do you take the side piece rods out and paint and then re-install or do you have to paint the sides with the rod installed?

i do them in pieces. tap that pin out a little ways and hook your makita to it. they come out and go in much easier that way.

I know that takin stuff apart is a lot of work and seems like you're goin in the wrong direction, but you'll be much happier with the results when you're done. I spent a bunch of years buildin my car and it was soooo tempting to just drive it away without final paint. It nearly killed me to blow it all apart for painting , plating, and polishing, but now I'm seein the results and I thrilled.

Amen to that 29, it's hard putting them together the first time. It's even harder to talk yourself into taking it back apart so you can paint and put it back together again! But it certainly is worth the extra effort....CR

Frank,

take them apart like others have said - u will be much more pleased
that way. i didn't know til the other day that these 4 piece hoods were referred to as BUTTERFLY HOODS. you guys probably already knew. makes sense to me. notice no capitalization in this note -- left hand all wrapped up tight - had a fluid build-up in it and the therapists are squeezing it a bit - can't do much with it right now --small price to pay.

Installing a newly painted hood has to be the hardest part of puttung back together a streetrod. It takes three good people. The thing is like a crab.

if it came off it will go back on. unless it is some of the after market junk we have now. if it has a prefit before paint sticker on it i send the junk back.
