Hay, guys if someone will help me with this question, i have alum heads on my 350 chevy. with headhuger headers i have crossed the spark plug thread about 3/4 of the way in and i will have to rethread , what has happend is that the plug is going in on an angle. do i just try to retread or do i have to do something eles to get it strait. i guess i should have removed the headers first which is a lot of work just to install plugs. i guess what happend is the rachet was hitting the header and pushing it on an angle.

you could use a thread chaser and magnet. i always start them by hand because of this very reason.

i have had good luck chasing spar plug threads on alum. heads, pull plug out ,stuff cylinder ,with a rag just enough to seal plug, put wheel grease on tape to catch alumn, get a 3/8 hose tape on end of shop vac. vac out hole before removing rag.worked for me.

I haven't had to do this myself but protruck69 is on the right track, I wouldn't put the piston at the top of the cyclinder if your tap goes too deep you will take a chance on doing damage to the piston. Remember if you mess it up you can take it off and have the hole welded shut and redrilled and taped worst case . Good luck RED

sorry guy. it took me so long to say thanks for the help, what i did is took a plug chaser and held my breath, and it worked very well, took my time, and put soom grease on the chaser and turned a couple of times ,then reversed it and wiped the chaser off each time, when i replased the plug it turned without any trouble and tightened fullly.

Glad it worked out easy for you. Bet you were sweatin' bullets, huh? I cross threaded the bolt holes on my trick flows while rushing to put the headers on, just took my time and cleaned out the threads with a tap and everything worked out!............CR

Probably should use hi-temp anti-seez on plug threads. will save threads in the long run.
