Having just finished our first long weekend of the nice weather, ( Victoria Day here in Ontario) I thought I would post some stats to warn everyone to be careful on Memorial Day weekend. Thsi past weekend 10 people lost their lives in Southern Ontario. The causes range from 2 in an overturned canoe, one on an ATV in the mud, the usual car and bike wrecks. We had a drunk driver go the wrong way on the highway and the worst, 3 girls in their late teens pulled a U turn in front of a tanker truck on a rural hightway, none of the girls made it.
We have a new law on the books here and the police will confiscate the car and license of anyone caught at over 30 MPH over the limit. They took away 139 vehicles. The minimum fine along with this is $2,000 to a max of $10,000. The worst example was 4 teenage kids in a 2000 Lincoln, 239 KM ( 148 MPH) in a 80 km ( 50MPH) zone.
This doesn't count the hundreds of tickets for seat belts and the other new law forbidding smoking in any vehicle with passengers under 18.
Take care as the long weekend approaches, drive safe. |
