Still driving the wife's car, cause I am slow.

Having just finished our first long weekend of the nice weather, ( Victoria Day here in Ontario) I thought I would post some stats to warn everyone to be careful on Memorial Day weekend. Thsi past weekend 10 people lost their lives in Southern Ontario. The causes range from 2 in an overturned canoe, one on an ATV in the mud, the usual car and bike wrecks. We had a drunk driver go the wrong way on the highway and the worst, 3 girls in their late teens pulled a U turn in front of a tanker truck on a rural hightway, none of the girls made it.

We have a new law on the books here and the police will confiscate the car and license of anyone caught at over 30 MPH over the limit. They took away 139 vehicles. The minimum fine along with this is $2,000 to a max of $10,000. The worst example was 4 teenage kids in a 2000 Lincoln, 239 KM ( 148 MPH) in a 80 km ( 50MPH) zone.

This doesn't count the hundreds of tickets for seat belts and the other new law forbidding smoking in any vehicle with passengers under 18.

Take care as the long weekend approaches, drive safe.

I may be the only person who likes the no smoking in the car with children law. I know it is taking away more rights but I have watched as babies are helplessly trapped in cars with all the windows rolled up and mom and grandma smoking like chimneys. Sometimes you have to give up things for the greater good. All your statistics are very interesting- and a great reminder to be very careful out there.

What got me was the 139 cars confiscated. Of that 137 get given back after 7 days. the other 2 were caught street racing........the penalty for that is the crusher. The smoking law is brand new and the cops say although they know it is impossible to enforce, they hope it will enlighten people to what they are doing.
