I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I've loved motorcycles all my life but recently it seems like I'm always hearing about someone involved in a fatal accident, especially us guys over 50. Very sad.

Dixie, Just got the news early this morning about Rastus. Certainly hit me like ton of bricks, still very hard to believe that he's gone. I know he will be missed by all of his friends down there, as well as all of us up here. He was one just one helluva of a nice guy. Never had a cross word to say, always seemed to have a smile on his face and a story to tell you. Very, very sad. I feel very sorry for his family; him being just retired and with many, many good years ahead of them. And now it is all gone. What a shame.

Here's a picture of the big guy with his wife from a year ago. I know most of you never met him, but for those of us who knew him, you'd be hard pressed to find a better person. Rest In Peace Big R.

Dixie I am in shock. I remember talking to Big R a couple of different times when he set up his account and he was a great guy. This is such awful news for those left here to miss him. I will pray for you and for his family. Remind everyone you know guys to watch out for motorcycles.

You know Dixie I was looking at our forum discussion about his new Goldwing. It was talking about accidents and the dangers of bad drivers mixed with motorcycles. It was sad to read but makes a very good point for those bikers still riding.

Hope this is not a trend. More people buying motorcycles and geting hurt. Had one of our neighbors got killed last night when a car turned in front of him on his bike. Just bought the bike 2 weeks ago. 38 years old--left behind wife and 2 kids.

JB - I believe that he was returning home from a part time job, when a car cut him off. I also heard that it was a young woman driving the other vehicle. I have family who live in the same neighbor hood as Jim and were also close friends of Rastus and his wife. This was one of those accidents that could probably have been avoided if the other driver had been paying attention to what they were doing. I had known Rastus for several years, but not nearly as long as Jim, so I know Jim is really crushed by his death.

We nearly lost a friend and his wife last fall on bikes. There were 4 of them riding and a woman was driving after having surgery on her wrist or hand and was unable to control her vehicle and she headed right into them. One man was killed, one paralyzed, our friend and his wife were seriously injured, in the hospital for months and are still trying to recover and 1 rider was unharmed because he was able to avoid the collision. Like Ken I hope this trend of accidents does not continue. Please be careful guys and gals.

"She said she never seem him coming...."

Very sadly, this is the case all too often. There are many people on the road that do not possess good driving skills. We see them daily. But the States give them licenses. And then you see other people more concerned about their cell phone conversation than their driving. Texting while driving is absolutely the worst.

Well its just awful when these things happen. I've been right there man. I've too have had so many close calls on bikes over the years that I finally sold all of my stuff in early 80's. I know I sound anti-bike in my previous posts, but thats not me at all. I really really like motorcycles. In fact, I was at a Honda dealership in Arlington Tx last weekend looking at a new 750 Shadow Spirit. I am (was) thinking about buying one because of the gas prices. I just can't seem to drop the hammer because of the way people operate their cars. They are not driving they are steering. Not thinking or paying a bit of attention or just don't care - one of the two. I haven't decided which one yet. Shivers went up my spine when I saw this post this afternoon.
