Big Al sittin back in paradise.

One of the guy's at the shop offered me his edelbrock to try on my engine... we set it on and never touched anything and the car ran perectly... he wanted to keep the carb so yesterday I bought a new 600 cfm edelbrock with electric choke... put it on and all my toubles went away.... so I have a new holley with a blown power valve (....anything that sensitive is not for me)...for sale for $150... the edelbrock cost me $300... you guys can debate holley versus edelbrock all you want.... I know what worked for me without touching timing on anything and I now have 22 inches of vaccum....all I have to do now is rework the linkage and the atv kickdown to the 2004R....

I can surely find a buyer but I have a feeling it is too small for most of the guys I run with. Isn't it a 600 CFM?

You may want to add the holley bracket that will correct the geometry for the atv cable for the 200R. This will prevent premature trans failure.

if a motor is timed and does not back fire you cant blow a power valve. plus new holleys are designed to prevent this. where did you get it ? should have yelled al. i have several edlebrocks laying in the corner.

i change out power valves several times before i get one tuned. never even take it off the engine. first clue was running fat and loss of low end power.

When I first got my car it had a holly on it and we couldn't get it to run right. I bought a 600cfm Edelbrock with electric choke and it worked fine except for gas perk until I put a fiber spacer under it and since then runs great.

Power valve blow out protection (check ball and spring) is also available for the older ones. You drill out the base plate (it comes with instructions) Remember Shine the price of metal is up so those old carbs can go to the recycler!

all i can tell you is a blown power valve is not the holley's fault . i personaly like the holley because of all the adjustment you can do.

Holleys SUCK! Got a shelf full of them. Put a Carter on one car and an Edelbrock on the other. End of all problems..Corvette ran faster with carter than with holley!

Holley's suck

Edelbrock's suck

Fords suck

Chevys suck

Got a holley on everything i own that is carbureted. No Worries Edlebrock is a semi controlled fuel leak. Holley street avenger is a HUGe P.O.S.

Get a 600 holley, learn how to tune it. Done.

Hey CR if you have old Holley's laying around I will help you clean up the shop. I will send you my address :-) All our cars have Holley's (bigger ones)and I never have to adjust, never have fuel leaking out, and they start up and fire every time. I have had the same used 750 Holley that I raced with on 3 different motors, only one rebuild (mostly just because it is easy to do)great investment for me.

to each their own! I personally have had bad luck with just about all holleys. And I do know how to work and tune them. I just don't care to have them on my cars!

I will admit from a racers standpoint they are better, but how much racing do you to with your streetrods? I like the reliability of carter and edelbrocks.

I'll bet this opens up a can of worms LOL!..........CR

Sounds like different strokes for different folks. My husband was a carb rebuilder for about 15 years. He would tune in a Holley and never see the guy again. He could sometimes say that with the Idontidlebrock but when they didn't work they are a nightmare to get working. I would not tell anyone what to run. I had a daily driver with a Holley 780 Vac and drove it year round in the snow and everything and it never ever let me down. Matter of fact I still have that carb because it was an original off of a Chevelle as I remember. Numbers match for a 396 so I kept it.

Reliability??

My 69 1/2 ton sits, some times for months at a time. I get in , hit the switch & off i go. Holley 600 Been on there for about 4 years now.

The 46 can be driven 4-5 days a week, or sometimes sits for 3 weeks without being touched. Get in hit the switch & go.

Seems reliable enough to me.

now lets end this foolishness & get on to something we can discuss like mature adults & come to a reasonable conclusion.

let me chain saw this can of worms and open it up wide, Have used both holleys, carter, elderbrock and all seem to be good rebuilt a many holley and all the others but now I just run some of this stuff see photo 550 horse, 24 to 26 mpg, 6 spd, 373 rear. Get the same out of some of the newer gm stuff, If it breaks or acts up plug it into the scanner and it will tell you what to fix. RED

The new holleys are pretty much goof proof and are easy to readjust or tune. The edelbrock will work good out of the box,but are a pain to tune if they are running too rich-- and most are.

Ah Big Dude -- Ya finially hit it.

Most guys complain that an edelbrock 600 cfm is too rich for their 350 and have trouble tuning it.

That is where the problem lies-

A 350cu. in. @ W.O.T. only needs 485 CFM (and who out there drives @ W.O.T.

Ya can't tune for cfm

The real trick is @ 500 cfm carb---I don't care if it's Holley, edelbrock, Carter or even a Holley 390..

Been usin 500 cfm carbs for years and never had a problem.

Shine ---I think you'll agree, won't ya.

I'm gonna vote with Red on this one.... EFI is the way to go now... Just plug yer laptop in and set timing and fuel where you want them.. If it doesn't make you happy, keep doing the above til you are.... Just bought a new(to me) dodge with a Carter TQ... I'm gonna have fun tryin to make a 440 get close to 20mpg draggin all my stuff and a bunk and fridge along. The suspension is rated for 15K lbs.... and its 12 ft tall too
