I have just finished a build of a mild 283 and went to spin the oil pump this evening before buttoning everythin up. I plan to install this weekend. When I put a drill on the priming shaft, it would barely turn. I did get oil up through the pushrods on all 8 cylinders but the 1/2" drill ran very slow and labored. The pump is a stock SBC pump. Any ideas before I tear into it?

Thanks in advance for your help. I have been a long time "lurker" but 1st time poster.

How thick is the oil your using? Also do you have a good strong drill? 99% of the time when I prime a new engine, I will have oil squirting out the oil galley hole on the top rear of the block, it will squirt out within 10 seconds of priming. keep a rag over it, and I always use a portable pressure gauge, you want oil volume and pressure before you start a new motor. Oil volume is more important than pressure, too mutch pressure is defeating the purpose of oiling in the first place.
