Good grief , i just pulled out my oil pump and looked at the drive shaft on it .It has a metal sleeve instead of plastic and the pump is a m55hv for a xbc ,the problem is that the sleeve doesnt lock onto the pump like the old plastic sleeves do. If i put it on with engine upside down it is going to fall off,my only alternative is to put it on from top after bottom end is done with pan on .Im afaid it will fall or not get hooked up somehow ,anyone else had this problem. Sorry its been 20+ yrs since i built an engine please excuse lol

It will go on it when you turn it over- just take a long screw driver to it-theres not that much slop in it---your excused!

You want the metal sleeve, I hate the plastic ones. Like Greg said, drop it in and use a long slotted screwdriver to snap it in place, it does a take a little pressure to snap. Another tip, point the slots of the oil shaft to the 10/4 position before you drop in the distributor, it will align almost immediately.

K thanks, Im paranoid about something going wrong lol. I am still running the engine we built back in the eighties, although its sat alot in different project cars i have had about 2 yrs drive time on it lol. I mean this oil pump drive just slips onto pump and doesnt snap in place never seen anything like it..but it is metal at least. thanks again
