Well i couldnt take it anymore ,I listened to the cam sound bite on compcams website till i had to order the darn thing.Anyway i went to pull out the lifters on the motor in the bucket and none would come out the top.So I pulled motor and have a complete one in pieces in shop, only problem i wrote down the end gaps as .025-026 on top and sec as .016-.018 this is on a hypereutectic piston so the ring gaps are supposed to be wider but isnt the numbers mixed up? I thought the topring was spossed to be smaller than the second. Its on a .030 over 350 sbc. I cant find nothing on the internet and even called jegs tech support no help. If anyone knows id like to start putting this thing together, i got 2 weeks till spring nationals. Thanks

The top ring ( compression ring) should be tighter, most good ring companies now a days already send their products ready to go, you should not need to file them, ecspecially if its a basic 355 engine, that produces standard horsepower numbers, IE- 250-450 hp . The only thing I would really consider is that its always a good idea to bore a motor when you already have the new pistons for the machinist to measure exactly. Even though they may say .030 on the top, the measured diameter may be diff. from different manufactures, plus the cylinder taper you are starting with is going to dictate how much material is taken off.

Keith Black Hypers run a larger gap on the top ring. Be sure on that one if you have Keiths pistons. You will bust out the ring land for
sure if you dont open up the TOP ring gap on His pistons.

Ok thanks for replies gentlemen. I contacted a very respectable engine builder and he was saying on the keith blacks he opened up as far as .040 cause the piston ring land is so close to the tops of the pistons that it really gets hot. Ive got speedpro non file to fit so he said to check and see if they are between .020-.025 would work great. Thanks again
