Hi. I have a problem with the leaf springs on the project 37 Ford that I bought. Who ever started the project wanted to lower the rear without the use of lowering blocks. They heated up the front of the spring, and bent it down. Is there anything else I can do without having to pay near $500 for a bolt on leaf spring kit?? Thanks.. Al

if it's had heat used to bend it, throw it away and replace.

A spring shop ought to be able to replace the main leaf in each spring for a lot less that $500. You probably don't know what the spring was originally from and a spring shop probably won't care. They'll just measure it.

all you need is the mains redone. take the springs to a spring shop and let them take care of it.

Shine. Do you think by just changing the main it would sit better than it does now?? I have talked to other 37 owners that because of the radius of the rear fenders on a 37 that 2" lowering blocks are suggested to have it sit right.. Al

lowering block work well. it's always just easier even with cost to buy an install kit. the original springs are fatigued anyway. get the new set under it and after it is built you can decide on how much lowering block you need.

I used the CE kit when I built my '37 back in 1989. I was pleased. The car sat a little too high so I made lowering blocks to center the wheel in the fender opening. Also, the wheel base was off so when I made the lowering blocks I offset the new locating bolt accordingly. I've since heard that this offset problem has been corrected so you'll likely be OK. Be you may want to use lowering blocks to center ther wheel in the opening or to really slam it to the ground.

My old car rode like a stage coach. Ever time I hit a small bump in the road it bottomed out. I called Chassis Engineering, spent the 500.00 dollars and it rides like a Cadillac now............well worth the money.

fordorfrank has the cheap way out but I'd sell something and pay the 500.00 as dart and some of the others said, P-S, Jim, Did you at least cut the second leaf back an inch so it could move, O yeah did I mention that's the slightly riskey but realy cheap way to help the ride? DON"T DO IT

If you have a spring shop make them they can make it for the right weight and ride height.

Thanks for all of your help, and suggestions. I think I am going to go with the CE kit. I want to have it done right the first time, and not have to repeat it over again.. Thanks again.. Al

TCI, Total Cost Involved makes a good kit in Ontario California.

No problems with rods, no fun.
