Big Al sittin back in paradise.

From my friend Mike Kruze......

Subject: Old big blocks.....

Subject: Interesting info. about the old big block engines.

I thought you guys might be interested in the following info. from when I was watching American Muscle Car.

They took 5 engines from the 1960's and dyno tested them as to their true horsepower compared to the factory rated h.p.

Any work done to the engines had to be to factory specs, using only factory available parts from that era. The only modification allowed was the engines could be bored .060 over stock and they still had to use factory available pistons.

Engine: Factory rated h.p: Tested h.p: Tested torque:

Chevy 409 409 406 430

Pontiac 421 405 488 470

Chevy 427, L88 Rat. 425 527 501

Ford 427 425 637 554

Chrysler Hemi 426 425(A joke) 820 689

That 820 h.p. for the hemi. I guess that's why no one could beat them in a street drag race.
