Anything that has moving parts fail! I like to build my cars for the long run and if/when something fails there is a parts store around the conor that stocks the part. I hear the electric water pumps are very good and will last a long time. Don't have to worry about broken belts and give constant water flow. Better cooling at idle and maybe better at high speed because it's not moving the water fast.

The electric pump will continue to circulate water when the engine is shut off (if you want it to) and they don't rob any horsepower BUT if it dies on you in timbuctoo where do you get a replacement.... personally I go with the General.... they pay those engineers millions of dollars to figure out what's best....for example - I've bought enough electric fans to build a hover craft.... in the end an 18 1/4 inch mechanical fan proved best.... (thanks to Dixie)
Big Al sittin back in paradise.

Electrics are good units, much better today than just a few years ago. But for me, I'd stay with the mechanical. Got enough things drawing on my electrical system, don't need one more.
