need a crash course on adding a leaf or 2 to the rear springs on my ragtop(47 Chevy) original springs. Where would be the best spot to put the spring. It has 7 leaves in it now and was thinking 1 maybe 2 would help in getting the rear end up a hair. Any sfety precautions needed. Thanks

sounds like they are just weak. have them rearched. any spring shop can do it. if you just want to add springs the shorter ones are the stiffest.

That is probably the right thing to do, closest spring shop is 100 miles away and to tell you the truth I am losing patience with this damn thing. Been up in the air now going on 3 weeks because people in parts houses don't listen to the customer--me--when ordering parts. Seems they know more than the customer and send the parts they think I need.. well they were wrong and now I am waiting. Of course it likes it on jack stands--been there 98% of the time since I bought it.

If you have a press maybe you could re-arch them yourself. Worth a try.

even if there waek an extra leaf will get you up but you may need longer leaf bolts or worse u bolts your local parts store should also sells a helper spring kit ther usually good for an extra 1000lbs of carrying capacity theres also over shock springs also an option or lifting blocks if you decide on the adding of leafs figure that each leaf is worth about 250lbs x 2(2 sides) remember to stack them bigest to smallest and dont neglect to put in the shims between springs if you have bottom out springs (i dont think you should usually on cargo vehicals)they are allways on the bottom but keep in mind that the stiffer the spring the harder the ride and IF your springs are weak money says (and experiance) that one is waeker than the other to determine this see if the rear kinda has an angle to it measure from the bumper to the ground on a flat surfus thy also give a strange ride hope my advice works for ya ive messed with the springs on all my rides and this is what ive learned

If you add springs, the longer the spring - the softer the ride. Short springs = stiff

A good spring shop can build you a new set with the height and stiffness/softness you want. Truck shop in Albuquerue built a set for my 4 door Bronco that lifted 3" exactly and ride softer than stock, like a dream. ($600 front and rear installed.)

Thanks for all the responses. Right now will probably add a coupel of springs--trying to find a used set of stock springs now. Shine--for the price of a set of Eaton spring I can get complete CE set up for the rear end. I have used Eaton before and they have have a great product but right now the leaves will have to work.

yeah eaton and posies have gotten a little out of hand on price. i can take a set to the spring shop here and get new ones for half. i do not understand why our venders are so hell bent on shutting down this hobby. ce has always been a top shelf supplier.
