After searching previous posts on the subject ( as many as available) I need a little enlightenment. My engine, carb base level is at 4 below horizontal, the differential is set at 4 degrees above horizontal. Ride height is set (tractor weights to compensate for fluids, interior etc), and mock up drive shaft installed. Everything looks correct but is spring wrap a concern when setting the pinion angle.

Mild small block, 2004r, 9 inch rear.

41 olds 2 door sedan. Almost a copy of the 41 chevy 2 door. Chassis Engineering rear spring set up as used for the 41 chevy.

Go from the output shaft on your trans, depending on your horsepower- set your pinion at a parallel with it or you can preload it a couple of degrees for spring wrap.

With a mild small block, Pre-loading the pinion angle should not be done. You not working with enough horse power to be a concern. Pre- Loading a pinion angleis something thats done with Drag cars that are under a hard and then constant load. Your driving a basic street car, Its smart to build it like one. Pre-loading it will also give you a vibration at normal highway speed. Set it up normal, you`ll be much happier.

I think faster than I type and my typing is really slow. I left out transmission/crankshaft is at 4 below horizontal wich makes it parallel with the pinion. Would that be a couple of degrees up or down... can't see it in my mind.
