Hi guys need help, new toy with 700R trans. Not shifting, seems like only 1st and 2nd? Wrong hookup on TV cable for holley carb so I ordered a Bowtie Overdrive kit for a Holley. Ouestion is Lockup plug on drivers side of trans only has 2 wires, a green one and a white one, neither hooked up. Car has paper work on TCI lock up kit but Tci says theirs all have 3 wires. So ???? Has vacume switch with two terminals, nothing hooked up only hose to carb. Seems like wireing is all there on valve body, solenoid for 4th gear clutch, switch with two terminals all hooked up and going to the plug. Hope trans is not fried. Need HELP Please , Thanks Ken

Looked a little better at it I see one problem someone cut a wire off the B terminal of the plug. I think it is only a ground? Is the A terminal a 12v source? and D to the vacume switch for another ground? If so do I realy need the B ground? Thanks again Ken

Sounds like you have early 700R4. Wiring is for torque converter clutch solenoid and has nothing to do w/ shifting. If you have a 1-2 shift on time ( light throttle @ 15 to 20 mph and spreads out w/ more throttle opening )but no 2-3 and 3-4 shift ,then most likely the 3-4 clutchs are gone or you have a stuck valve in the valve body.Common for 3-4 clutches to burn up especially if TV is not working properly w/ correct goemetry. They come on for 3rd and stay on for 4th along w/ the 2-4 band. As a side note, the 2-4 band comes on for 2nd,goes off in 3rd and comes back on for 4th.The servo for that band (on outside of case,r.side)has two apply areas, one for 2nd and one for 4th with an area that accumulates to cushsion the 3rd shift and release the band.

Dakotah hit the nail on the 700R4 head. When you had the pan off was there a load of crap in it? If not, it has either a stuck valve or the TV is still otu ofadjustment. It may not have ashift kit init. Transgo's kit, ans superior's as well, has an aditional spring to help with keeping the TV valve free.

Thanks for the answers guys!!! Jaybird ,the bottom of the pan was kind of clean, just a little metal on the magnet in the pan. the valve for the TV cable seems to move ok,but I ordered the Bowtie Overdrive tv cable kit and will install and adjust and hope for the best. Maybe I will get lucky and it wont be like Dakotah says. May be though, dont know how much the previous owner drove it not adjusted . I will try to work on the lockup portion if the TV cable works out or off to the trans shop $$$$$$$$$. Wish me LUCK. Ken

Drove our '33 delivery for 2 years without converter lock up. Shifted fine. Finally went to Ron Francis #TC-70 mini module for adjustable lockup speed.

if you have to replace the trans stuff a 200 in it and you wont have to worry about the problems with 700's . trans men call the 700 " the money maker ".

200 has no OD, and it and the 200-4R(OD) both also have TV cables which need to be correct to avoid a burn out.All OD units should have lock-up operational if driving long distances as cooler flow is reduced in OD and the torque converter is makin heat in non lock-up mode. There are kits to overcome those problems but if watching a tach in both modes you will see a significant rpm reduction which translates into fuel mileage-dakotah

excuse me i forgot the r4 as i know of no one using the 200. the 200r4 only needs one ign hot for lock up or you can run it without it. one of mine has close to 80k on it with no lockup. i've been using them since 91 . everything about them is easier than the 700 and they are much more reliable. they are smaller and easier to mount. you dont need some high dollar after market kit. jmho
