I have bear claw latches on my doors. The right side door closes all the way but as soon as I start driving the latch lets loose and the only thing holding the door is the first notch of the bear claw and the safety pin. Is there any adjustments on these latches or do I have to replace it? The location it's in is very hard to see and I can't see where it could be moved forward or back. In fact sometimes I have to push the door in (closed) to release the latch even though it's not holding the door all the way closed.

normally the adjustment is in the pin on the post. move it out just a touch and see if it helps. It may have moved in and is not letting the bearclaw close properly.

It has been my experience that the latch is too tight. The door is not closing all the way and the second part of the bear claw is not engaging all the way. You should be able to move the post a little toward the outside.

With door open, take a bolt and latch it. If slow, cable/rod is too taught. Might need a shot of oil. Does door close square? Open and close while watching the belt line. Whose body? If Gibbon = no steel = sag.

Jim,

It's a Show Me Body. After taking the door panel off I noticed the door looks like it was on another car at one time or re-done on this car. The door looks square. The door closes all the way tight but I get wind noise from it and it does have weather strip on it. When I close the door and pull on it from the outside it won't realease. But as soon as I drive it pops and door becomes loose but it will still open with the poper (sometimes) at times I need to pull the door closed a little bit to realease it with the popper or inside handle. Thank goodness for safety pins or my wife might fall out.

Tommy.........Tony makes a nice body with much steel.

If the latch snags the bolt OK, might also check the upholtery and rubber seals for thickness. Look for over crushed areas.

Thanks Jim, That's one of the reasons I bought this car. I checked the weather striping and it's thin with no crushed areas but it also looks new so it may not show yet. I was thinking the same as you and thought about taking it off and see what happens. With it on I have quite abit of wind noise so I can guess what it would be like without it.

Try having someoene else pull on the outside handle while you sit in the seat to see if the weight of the people in the car is causing enough flex in body to create the problem you are having. Is there any difference in how the door acts if there is one or two people in the car? Just a thought. Also as Jimmothershead said if the release cable/rod is too tight it will not allow the latch to fully catch the pin causing it to let go.

Tommy you might try calling RJay and see if they have some suggestions. There have been many cars sold through him and it might save you some time.
