I was told one time by race car motor builder that he likes to mod two bolt main blocks.

The 4 bolt blocks make the crank move up and down alot with alot of rpms. With to bolt blocks

he will drill and tap on the ends of the crank caps.for added strength.

I dont believe they had 4 bolt mains from the factory, but their is alot of after market companies that make the conversion. And yes you can run a blower on a small mild engine, maybe a 6-71 thats under driven 10-20% , even with mostly stock components. I would really factor in the cost of doing this build. 318's are certainly not a true work horse motor, they were reliable, and conservative engines for every day driven cars and trucks. Plus the cost of maching for 4 bolt mains will be expensive. I hate to stray you from your idea, but I would consider buying a "B" series engine to build, such as the big block / raised deck version of the 383, lots of stock power, fairly inexpensive, and there is way more performance parts available than there is for a 318.

Didn't they have 4 bolt mains in a 340? Can you use that block?
