Just finished shooting the basecoat on a couple spot repairs on my wifes van. I have one run and need advice on how to fix it. The data sheets from Nason don't give a wait time to sand only the directions for clearcoat wait. I know that the base can be sanded/wet sanded but how long is a normal dry time to sanding for a basecoat.

Suggestions and advice always appreciated.

Jim

Let it sit as long as you can, you can take a heat gun and carefully dry it a little at a time. Then spray lightly in gradually wider patterns until you achive hiding. Use a fast reducer in your basecoat.

Base coat dries very fast, with normal coats you can sand in a matter of about 10 minutes, If its heavy enough to run, wait about a half hour. I don`t know what clear your using but the time between coats is about 15-20 minutes. If you need to sand on the clear, I like to let it sit for atleast two day, and more if you can.

Depending on what kind of reducer you used, fast, slow,or mid temp,I would say that you could sand within 2-4 hrs, also depending on room temp.I would try to water block sand with 1000 grit, that should keep it from balling up too much. I would also suggest that when you respray, don't go too heavy too soon. You might risk the fresh base coat to lift.

Shop 70degrees with a mid temp reducer.

Thanks

Wet sanded the base with 1000 grit and shot the clear. Wet sanded and buffed and it looks pretty good for a farmer. Still have trouble with color match the van is white and the new white is a touch grayer. But my wifes happy so I'm happy.

Thanks agian for all the help.

Thanks for all the help. Decided to tackle it in the morning base should be well cured by then. It is a small sag quarter sized and shrunk as the paint set. This is more practice and learning as the base /clear is still rather new for me.

Leon the clear is Nason spot and repair and 10 - 15 is about right.

Do yourself a favor and let it set for a day after you sand or the paint will lift and give you fits.
