I have Classic Gauges in the 34. I have a problem with the fuel gauge. When the tank is full it registers 3/4 until I put my foot on the brake, then it goes down about 1/8th and back up again after I release the brake. When the car is shut down the gauge pointer goes way below the empty mark. Has anyone had this problem? I spoke to a tech at classic and he said the sending unit not adjusted right. I spoke to another tech awhile back and he said it's a grounding problem. What gives?

Sounds like a ground problem. You could run a jumper wire from the sending unit to a good known ground to test. Is the sending unit sharing the same ground point as the rear lights?

if this happens when the car is running and the charging system is working, then there must be a change in the voltage feed to the gauge. If the brake light switch is drawing power from the same feed as the gauges it will change the voltage to the gauge which will make it give a different reading. The same theory applies to the ground side of the gauge and the sending unit. Check the ground and the feed to make sure they are not tied together for the circuits.

Gene

Not sure if there are baffles inside the tank. Can't see the wires above the tank. I was looking for a fix without taking the tank down but I guess I'm going to take it down to get to the bottom of this. Thanks guys I will let you know how I make out. Tommy

Your car is a quirk of nature. Hybrids store energy and save gas when you brake. You have an anti-hybrid, it does better full throttle. Drive on.
