Time to stir it up! I spent a couple hours last night searching the site for threads on front clips, rear axels and other misc. recycled parts to build the 51 Chevy pickup. This is going to be a local driver for me and the dog so nothin fancy. Just a good foundation to build on later.

Camaro before strut and Nova came up most often. So which is better for the 51 and why? Is the Buick Skylark before 80 same as the Nova?

Don't hold back just give me your opinoins.

Jim

i've got a 69 nova clip in my 48 pick up. it works great, the only drawback is that with the rear steer the column goes through the floor down low and leaves less room at the brake pedal. On my kids 48 sedan we used an 82 malibu clip. with the front steer there is a better angle on the column, but i had to shorten the radiator 2" to clear the steering linkage. Both vehicles sitfairly low. They can be seen in the members rides messages that are still on the board.

Any one had any problems with the ackerman effect with a clip?Or are the wheelbases close enough not to cause any problems? Just curious. Ron

I've mislaid my books so... I THINK - Nova clips are the same 1968-1974 and the same as Camaro clips 1968-69. Camaro clips changed with the 1970-1/2 model to what Shine recommends. 1975-79 Nova clips are the same as the Camaros of those years. Also, GM built a four door Nova Police Package 1975-79 (or thereabouts) that would scream for a smogger (faster than the Z28s those years)- I drove one for a while after the cops wore it out and it went into the general fleet. 350, heavier springs, sway bars, brakes, etc.- the shotgun mount was a nice touch too. One of those would be a find for a donor.

Try to fing the early clip that has the steering box mounted behind the crossmember and not in front, It will give you much better radiator clearance and easier to set up the steering.

That picture must have been taken a long time ago. Everything is green and it looks like it has been raining. I sorta remember that happening, sorta.

Your gonna need the truck when that guy gets big. Jim the subframes are the same on Apollo's Omegas, Novas and, Venturas from 70 to 75. The rear ends from those same cars will fit nicely into your truck. Don't know about the SkyLark unless they had that same kind of body style later on. I always thought they were close in size to a Chevelle.

find a mid 70's camaro that still runs good and is driven. you can use almost every piece of it. seats, colum, brakes.rear end, brake lines. you name it.

Shoulda known the dog would get all the attention. Tammy's right Corgi my daughters pup who spends most of his time in the shop. The truck will have to be low just to fit his in the weeds stance.

Thanks for the reply's.

Shine, why do you favor the mid 70's Camaro over the later model?

right leon. i wish they had done the rear steer for a few more years. hard to find now. just dont us a 67. parts are high and hard to come by. akerman smakerman , put your foot in it and it'll slid around the corner. i've yet to see this as a problem.
