Well, I couldn't believe it.. Not this early anyway. The 2 stations in the little burg I live in went from $3.459 to $3.529 and $3.629 in a day... This as of now has effectively killed any ideas of a trip to anywhere this summer, not to mention parts for the truck... I'm even considering giving the car back to the bank at this point.... Once upon a time not too long ago, that same $3.62 would have gotten 12 gallons of premium... Steve

Well we are not any better off here in Canada!! Victoria BC, west coast Vancouver Island, 70 miles north of Seattle WA. Currently we are paying $1.249 per litre for regular gas. This works out to $5.2458 per gal. To sum it all up IT SUCKS big time........ They say it could go as high as $1.50 per litre ($6.30 per Imperial Gal) by the summer. I still maintain that with all our present day technology why can't we build or develope an alternative fuel.

It's 3.479 her and I assume it will be going up in a day or two. My attitude?. one less night on the road should cover the additional cost of gas. So what over night trips do I cut? I'll work it out, 'cause I am driving this summer.

Diesel was 4.25 when I went on my jaunt to Nevada on saturday. Loaded up and leavin in the a.m. to do it again to deliver the coupe and pickup the roadster, then to bakersfield for the NSRA show, then back home. There goes a G$R$A$N$D in fuel.

Hope I sell the roadster @ BAKO,so I'll have fuel $$$ for the rest of the year.

people can preach about how gas prices should have been this high long ago but fact is it is slowly killing everything in the country- except for the elite few that profit from it. 87octane- 3.55 diesel 4.29 here where we are- My powerstroke got 8.7 mpg pulling my enclosed trailer to the grand run in tenn. last weekend. It will be parked for awhile.

I'm in Victoria, B.C., and regular unleaded is $1.249 per litre or in rough numbers its $5,00 USD for a US gallon and thats with our dollar at par (more or less), so I hate to think what will happen if our dollar returns to its old levels. I haven't checked the price on 94 yet but its likely around $5.60 per US gallon.

Pleasanton, CA - regular=$3.87, premium=$4.07, diesel=$4.44. If it gets much higher, it would pay to get a cheap hotel room in the town I work rather than commute 47 miles each way.

I just drove up to Long Island from Ft. Myers Florida on Sat and Sunday. Cost me $247.00 for gas.

If I didn't need a car down in Florida I could have flown for $59 and my wife for $59. That's $118 for the both of us and we could have been home in 3 hours instead of 21 hours driving, not to mention the wear and tear on the car and the driving lessons my wife gives me from the passenger seat.

Hey Sach, I got gas in Virginia $3.91.9 for 93.

Read today in the financial section on MSN that crude could reach $180/barrel. If is around $112 now and gas is at $3.50/gal regular, I wonder where it will be at $180. I guess probably about $5.65/gal. Premium would probably be between $5.85 and $6.00/gal. At those costs I'll be paying $120/week just to get to my job. Retirement might be closer than I previously thought.;-)

Might have to sell the Olds and by one of the new Smart ForTwo's. God, I hope not. ;-)

well i can tell you one thing.we've bought our last big 3 built car. i believe ford/gm/and chrysler are on their way out. they've had 30 years to build a better car and they have failed miserably . the new trucks are a joke. most of the cars are butt ugly and get piss poor millage . my bride had to have a 300 but at least it gets 25 mpg. myself i got rid of mine. dont care to own another failure. i'll build my own. fuel cost is how they intend to clean the air up. it will put the junk in the salvage yard where it belongs and stop driving around because your bored. i make 1 trip to town a week if even then. people driving 50 miles to work is not going to cut it anymore. these are changing times and i do not believe there is any way to stop it.

3.29 a gallon for 87 octane, so far in Carthage Missouri . It goes up 10-15 or more cents over night but slowly trickles down a couple pennies over the next month only to shoot up higher the next day...We are getting royally screwed over by someone..And im getting tired of it. Im looking into some 50 cc and 70 cc motorized bike kits i seen on ebay. Hell they get 200 miles to the tank and go 35 mph. No big cams for me anymore, HATE IT.

Remember Brian we are in Illinois....land of the high taxes on fuel. I agree with Shine, and am very disappointed with the big 3. What the heck is the problem with building a car that isn't a death trap that gets better than 25 mpg on the highway??? My van gets 25 mpg on the highway, a HHR gets 30 but I cannot haul the entire family in it.

It's 3.29 here in okla, but could be higher by morning. The problem is the value of the dollar is going down and oil is bought and sold for dollars all over the world, so the lower the dollar goes the more we will have to pay for gas.............

Went from $3.35 to $3.65 yesterday. Heard it is going to $3.75.

Besides the gas to drive to work, it is going to be the price of everything else that is going to hurt.

I won't be able to retire at this rate. Won't be able to bury me if I die. Wife may have to prop me next to the car like one of those little dolls! (Actually, she would more likely have being run over by the car!)

come on guys....no more doom and gloom. I say we are healthy enough to drive and enjoy the ride lets give up the dumb stuff and buy more gasoline. I have more fun on a day out in my car than I do playing a round of golf, or going out to dinner at a nice restaurant so I am sticking to a budget where I eat ham sandwiches for lunch and save that $25.00 I would have spent at Subway buying gas for Friday night!!!!

I personnaly, am tired of being held hostage.

A small investment now can yield substansial benefits for the future.

Shine, it's not just the American big 3! While cars like the Honda's and Toyota's do better on fuel than many of ours, they have also been lagging behind on mpg improvements. Sure they have a lot of hybrids but you got to pay a big premium for a hybrid and the mpg really isn't significantly better.

In 1986 I had a Honda CRX HF as a daily driver and travel car that got 44 mpg around town and 56 on the hiway (1.5L, 4cyl, 5 spd). Only one or two cars can match that today (a Honda and a Toyota). That was 22 years ago, so what have the car companies (US and foreign been doing in the years since??? They sure as hell haven't been working to improve mpg in their cars. I would have thought with all of the high tech engineering we would be driving cars and trucks that would get us at least 50 mpg to 80 mpg, or quite a few electric cars. But no, mileage wise we are no further along today than many of the vehicles were in 1986. Really does give the appearance that the oil companies and the automotive industries are in bed with each other.

Why don't you guys lead the way by figuring out how to build Rods that kick ass and get better mileage? I refuse to believe the likes of the shine-inator, Leon et al couldn't come up with a drool-worthy street rod that can cruise past a gas station without a sweat!

From a profit standpoint, if you could build such a device, this thread alone can attest to the size of the market for this solution!
