In talking to a few members here, I have decided that I am going to reinforce the shock mounts and put new shocks on it. If I still have car after the cruise season, I will look into putting a CE system under it. Any difference between Gabriel and Monroe. Found a couple of shocks close to the specs of the ones that are now on the car. Only difference I have found so far is price. Gabriel ultra and Monroe reflex. Thanks

rule of thumb is to have 1/4 to 1/2 inch more travel in the shock after the housing has bottomed out and hit.

Shine is right on, make sure the shocks won't bottom out, there isn't a faster way to kill a shock. Install bump stops if there aren't any. By helper spring, do you mean adding a leaf, or an overload spring? They will do two different things.

well it is going to be close. I have approx. 2 3/4 inches betweeen axle tube and frame--no snubber. Right now I am looking at a Gabriel Ultra shock--extended lenth of 13.61 inches, compressed length of 9.08 and travel of 4.63. Mounts aapprox. 11.5 inches. Shocks that are on there are are 13.70 extended--8.84 compressed--and travel of 4.86. They are the cheapy shocks and the Ultra are the Gabriel best. hopefully it will improve my ride. Am going to reinforce existing shock mounts.

As far as the helper spring I know thay help in sag with extra weight--was looking for a little extra height in the rear end. Just wanting to use the assist spring. Can't find any air shocks that are that short for my purposes.

Thanks
