I have hooker headers on my 30 model A, which I am in the process of restoring. My question is if I replace my hooker headers with Patriot or similar, will they line up with my collectors which are welded in place?

Also, I s the polished stainless steel header a good header and If I go with the coated, inside and out wil they hold up to the heat? The chrome ones states that extreme heat will blister and turn blue. I think they are out.

be very careful on coated headers. noname counterfits are everywhere. i buy mine from summit and like the patriot line. i have bought coated headers before that turned color and looked like crap in no time. if a vender cant prove where they came from dont buy. many have clones made and do a cheap coating on them.

Lots of questions Frank. I would think that if you switch to a different style header even by the same company that there might be some wiggle room needed to match up to your welded collectors. I purchased the same brand headers and even the same style and had to make some adjustments because they were not "exactly" the same. As for your choice of materials, have you checked out Stainless Works or Sanderson Headers? Al really likes his Totally Stainless exhaust. Looks great!

If there is nothing wrong with your headers , why not send them to Jet Hot and have them coated . They usually can do it in a couple of weeks. I have them on my rod and they still look great , been on the Model A for six years.

Got a set of Limefires years ago from Sanderson that were Jet Hot coated and they went bad. Jet Hot said I was not the original owner...Sanderson was and would not fix the problem. I have a logo of Jet Hot that I spit on from time to time. As far as the exhaust goes, I would recommend getting a set of ram horns, smooth them out and have them ceramic coated. No leaks, don't look bad and simple.

When I first started the 383 stroker like a dumb S---, instead of putting on a old set of cast iron headers I left the JET HOT coated headers on, they turned cherry red before I could adjust the timing , the headers still held up no damage at all. Never use powder coating on headers.

Hugger style for your A. Our '33 Sedan Delivery went on the asphalt 16 years ago with Hooker Huggers. Mike, owner of Jet Hot Coatings did them......still look great after 71,148 miles.

Frank I have Sanderson block hugger headers for my SBC 350. They turned color and cooked inside where the tubes came together. I don't particularly care for the Sanderson because the inner 2 tubes come inside which makes the radius of the tubes very tight. It really cooks the tubes there. I looked at replacing them this winter but I pretty much figured out that I would have to get the pipes replaced because they wouldn't bolt up. I decided to get them Jet Hot Coated but I have only had the car running for about 20 minutes so far. I like the style of headers that have the inner tubes going to the outside. I will let you know how they hold up.

I agree with Willys 33 -- get a set of rams horns. But get the Corvette rams horns. They are 2-1/2 inch. Besides, I think any cast header or manifold will be quieter. Hey, just my $.02.

Powder coating starts melting at 350 degrees ! That 's the reason you don't want to use it Hot coating is the way to go it gets done inside and outside of the part . Cap's in Fresno, Ca. does a excellant job . Been on my cars & customer's for years and looks like it did when I put it on ! They can do used parts two !There's my two cents

If you haven't looked at HPC headers you might want to check them out. They have block huggers that are top of the line. I also have had excellent luck with having headers, and even whole exhaust systems HPC coated, and they held up great even after thousands of miles.

Hey aosborn, can you tell me what HPC stands for? Where do you get these headers?

HPC stands for High Performance Coatings. Google it under HPC Headers and it will come up. There are 4 locations across the country. You send your stuff to them, they prep and coat it and send it back. You can also purchase products direct from them. Can't miss...

I had S&S headers build a set of headers for my 48 Anglia because no other headers seemed to fit, mainly because of frame, suspension, etc. I could not ask for a better set of headers and this was giving info over phone. I had then jet hot coated in and out and after 10 years they still look and work great, are easy to keep clean and never leaked. I can t remember the price but it was similar to other brands. I had them coated locally here in Orlando.

Can someone tell me how to tell if my headers are powder coated, Jet coated or ceramic coated, and what , exactly are the differences betwixt the three. I purchased them ( Flo-Tech ) Un-coated, and a friend at a race shop I hung around in sent them to one of his sponsors which was a Powder Coating Shop, but I don't know exactly what type of coatings the place did, whether it was just Powder or whether they did multiple kinds of coatings. (Did I just make sense?) Whatever it is , they seem to be holding up well with no discoloration after six years on the car. They are kind of a dull silver colour. I'd recommend them to ya there ,boop coupe but I can't say for sure right this moment, but I'm sure in a few minutes or so , you'll know everything there is to know about headers, coatings and prices..........................These guys are GREAT!

Traditional powder coat finishes are baked until the base material reaches about 450 degrees then held at that temp for about 1/2 hour. If your headers were powder coated it wouldn't last 20 minutes, so I think you can check that one off your list of possibilities. There are so many other products, it would be difficult to determine what you have. The ceramic coatings I am familar with tend to have a rough surface. The HPC coating I mentioned in an earlier post commonly has a matte to semi-gl;oss silver finish and over time turns more flat in sheen, especially on the tubes with tight bends right off of the heads. It sounds like that might be what you have.

I find that the ceramic coated work well, No discoloring. Powder coated are no good.

What happened to the days of silver heat paint? Eastwood claims thin coats, curing between will give a nice lasting finish. It sounds to me even if you pay good money for quality headers, they will turn color if they are not ceramic coated inside and out.
