Have a SBC, assume it's a 350 because it has "5.7LG" on the upper driver's side of the block. Rear side of the top of the block has "143736" and "J086". Questions are....anyone know what the G means? Also trying to determine if it's a 2 or 4 bolt, possibly what year it came out of. Thanks in advance for the help.

Actually that ride in my avatar just went away. It's now in Charlotte. That's why I'm trying to identify the SBC in the new ride. Pics to follow at some time.

BTW I checked the Mortec site, and was able to do a little figuring out on the engine. The J086 decodes as 10th month, looks like the 8th day, and then the 6 means either 76, 86, 96, or 06. When I can check the rest of the numbers I'll be able to tell. Thanks to all for the help. Mortec site it really good. I'm thinking the engine is of earlier vintage as it has the breather tube/oil fill in the front of the block, near where the water neck's located. It reamains to be seen.

Appreciate it Porchdog. I didn't know you could do that. This beast allegedly has the 'double hump' heads, solid lifters, and it also has 2 4bbl Edelbrocks. When I checked the linkage, they have it set up to run on both carbs at the same time-----talk about over carburated. It's got the progressive linkage, so I just have to set it up to run on only the one carb unless I really stuff my foot into it. Don't know why people would have it set up without running progressive. That's the kind of stuff you find on someone else's build. Not that the 37 (aka the pink wheeled wonder) was perfect.

you have to run on both. otherwise you are going to lean out one end of the engine. just set it up to run on the 2 barrels and delay the back barrels from coming in.

Shines right, put a pair on my car with progressive linkage. Wouldn't get out of it's own way and ran hot. Hooked both carbs up together runs great. Had em for 12 years, just keep your foot out of them!!!......CR

Hey JC--How you doin? The new ride's a deuce highboy roadster. Duval windshield, lift off top, 350, Limefire style headers, 4 speed, 9", commercial headlights, chrome solid axle front end, coil over rear, Tea's seat, power trunk, etc....Definitely NOT pink wheels. Pics will come on soon. If the weather looks good, we're going to try to make it to OC with it. It needs very little sorting out and I think it'll be a great ride. I'm not doing too bad. Still some health issues, but what you gonna do at my age. I'm happy each morning when I wake up and can see the grass is green, and not see the roots........

thats ok dixie . we can all agree to disagree . on an open motor car or one with room under the hood it's not too bad. most streetrods run # 8 and 4 pretty hot. bad gamble to run the rear lean at all. i would just run both and lean the primaries down to tune it and have a better balance. i bought a car with deuces once that ran on the outboards . the rear carb went dry and before i figured it out i toasted 8 and 4 . just food for thought.

OK Gang, I am going to jump in here with my results on the 2X4 carb issue. I'm running a 327, .60 over, 283 heads, flattop pistons, 9.2 comp ratio, Edelbrock cam #2103. Edelbrock's 2X4 intake and 2 edelbrock 500cfms. I initially set both carb the same. both idle circuits are open and adjusted. linkage is set for progressive. I have about 15,000 miles on this set-up and no problems so far. most of my miles are on the highways and interstates. We got 16.4 MPG on our last trip to North Carolina and Georgia, running 70-75 all through the beautiful hills of Tenn and N.C. temperature runs 180-185, 190 with air on.

I do admit that I've been thinking, with the price of gas ,going to a single carb and dual plane intake, that I have on hand. Also have a 2004R that's been build and ready to go.

Dixie you are right on with the old manifolds and with tunnel rams you can get away with it.

Try it with the new ones and you'll burn it down on the end that the carb is blocked off.
