Take out a sparkplug ,put back on the plug wire and ground side of sparkplug by touching the motor or head ect. you should see a spark in the electrode. Just be careful not to touch the end of plug lol,I hold on to the sparkplug boot. If its a HEI distributor the module may be bad. Keep us posted
one day my Harley would not start, We were on the side of the road with no tools, I had my wife hold the plug wire while I kicked it over, Yep , thats not the problem!
That method usually comes with a new hairdo. Gas, Spark, Timing and air. Devise tests to eliminate each as a problem.
Get off the trailer and drive

Pull the plug wire off and stick a large paper clip or wire in the hole that the end of the plug will go into. Touch the wire to the end of the spark plug. Have some one crank the engine. If it sparks you are getting power to that plug. You can do each plug if you want. Same can be done with the coil. Just put in the same wire and look for spark. No tools required. Good luck.
Yeah, if the ignition is the good old fashioned points type, the points could be stuck or totally out of adjustment.
Another question: Is the engine turning over and just not starting or is nothing at all happening? Also if the engine is fuel injected and the car has sit for sometime it is not impossible that the injectors are clogged from old fuel and just sitting. Happens more often than one might think, that's why I invested in a $500 on engine injector cleaning rig. Similar problems can be had with the float in a carburetor being hung in a closed position.
