My t bucket didnt have a horn ,so i bought a ahahahahooohga horn. I mounted it in the bed ,and was fixing to run wire when i pulled up the seat to get access to the wiring harness. It already had a set up for a horn prewired with a relay. Im kinda confused on how to wire the thing. Its got a ground and a green wire that say horn. I used a circuit tester and i get power to the relay and when i ground the black horn button i hear the horn relay click.Shouldnt i be getting voltage to the green horn button?Or do i have to have a ground on the horn? Do i break the pos or neg to hook up the horn push button under seat? I got the blue dot tail lights in ok and work great, but this has got me scratching my head some. Ill mess with it tomorrow somemore. Thanks

Im thinkin the ground wire coming out of the wire harness goes to the horn button. Is this correct.

the button grounds the relay. the relay powers up the horn. hot wire to middle of relay, one side will go to horn, other to horn button. the open side goes to the button if you use a meter.

Thanks for input guys, its a haywire harness and has a horn relay and prewired horn wires . I had a test light on the green that goes to pos on horn and i grounded the horn button wire coming from fuse box and i heard the relay click, but shouldnt i get voltage from the green wire when i did that? Hey Les cool vid on you tube by the way,can you get some in car video of driving around sometime that would be cool. Also where did you get the mirrors form? The usual t bucket mirrors that clamp on look like pooh. Thanks

If it is one of the square black Bosch type relays, the connections are numbered on the underside near the terminals. Terminals 85 and 86 are the "trigger" connections for the relay. Connect a hot wire from the fuse panel through your switch to #85, then run a ground wire to #86. Run another fused hot wire to #30, and then run a wire from #87 to your horn. Make sure your horn is grounded, and when you push the button, that closes the relay and makes the connection between 30 and 87 which will make the horn work. It sounds like you are half way there, you just need the connection between the 30 terminal and the horn and you should be in business. This is just one way to use those relays, there are many other wiring combos for these units that make them quite handy.

yes it is a black bosh relay and its all prewired, fused with horn circuit and ready to go with green and black wires coming from the harness that say horn on it. I was just expecting to get the test light to come on when i grounded the relay with the black wire and had a test light on the green . When it didnt it kinda threw me lol. Im fixing to go get a horn button and rig it up to see what happens,no smoke and fire good lol. Thanks for input.

It kinda sounds like you don't have power to the #30 terminal on the relay to give you a hot output to the green horn wire when the relay is activated.

Silly me, I thought the horn button went on the floorboard directly under the gas pedal, so at full throttle............ No??

Amswuod1......I tried that back in the day....problem was, my horn was 12 volts but my big foot aluminum gas pedal was only 6 volts. I got a 12 volt conibly connecter and, valla, all was fine.

Jim said it.

Jim,

Seems like those 12 Volt conibly Connectors are quite rare nowadays.

Weren't they invented by the same guy who came up with the Canutten Valve?

LOL
