Hey all,

This is my first post to this great site. I am building a 41 chev 2 door sedan and am wondering what product people recommend or wouldn't ever recommend for sound deadening and heat insulating the interior. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Ghengis

Lizard Skin Roofing materials belong on the roof of your house and bubble wrap is useless.

If you are doing a basic rod, check the stuff at Lowes and Home Depot....same stuff at rod runs.

keep building product out of your car. oil based products will continue to leach vapors for ever. plus they are flammable. you only get one chance to do this so do it right.

I have to agree with Shine and Don, yes we are not all rich and it sounds like a cheap option to use roofing materials at the Home Depot, Lowes or Menards but those are not designed for use in an enclosed automobile and from a weight stand point- they are heavy compared to Lizard Skin. The fire safety alone had me sold. Non-flammable, no weight addition, can be applied all over the inside and select outside areas. If you must use peel and stick pick something safe for automobiles- your health is worth much more and Lizard Skin is cost effective.

Howdy Adam!
I have to agree with Shine, Don, Tammy and most others here. I was in your position a couple of weeks ago use the Lizard Skin if you want to get it right the first time.

1 gal will do it. i use sound control also but it takes much less than heat control. the gun is worth it. it is adjustable and works very good.

Not to take anything from Lizard Skin as it is a great product, but Cool Car Ceramic has been around longer then Lizard Skin and is less expensive and is a one step application (insulation and accoustic). They also will sell you a gun if you need one. I know several users of the product and all have been satisfied with it's application and performance.

As I said Lizard Skin makes a great product but they are not the only game in town. Shop and compare and pick the one best for your application.

Shine....good point about flamable materials in cars. About 40% of street rods today are flamable fiberglass, reinforced with steel and flamable kiln dried oak. Flamable vinyl material is applied to flamable luan paneling using flamable contact adhesive. Most carpet is flamable nylon or some other synthetic.

As much as we think about safety in brakes and steering, we loose it in the fire area.,,,food for thought.

Just a note...some aftermarket carpeting is treated for fire resistance. Great reason to avoid buying the cheap stuff at AutoZone to carpet your ride.

Welcome Ghengis. Listen to the pros and save your money on something that's easy to upgrade later and won't sacrifice safety.

A company called Sound Down makes a terrific sound deadening carpet underlayment. It comes in various weights and densities and works very well. It is used in yachts to kill engine room noise, and for generator compartments on high end RV's. It is also available foil backed to stop floor board heat transfer. Not cheap, but what does it cost to do the job twice?

oops how thick do you guys apply lizard skin or cool car. manufacturer says .060? Shine, are you saying that you use the sound control instead of the insulation?

Thanks

Ghengis, somehow you double posted and we took one off then the other disappeared! Sorry about that, please post your question about thickness again and I am sure Shine will give you his formula.

well jim if you cover the car inside with lizardskin it stops a large portion of the fire hazzard. i like lizardskin because i can use the hose on it and seal inside of door post, windshield header and all the nooks and crannies. until i did one i did not know how much difference it would make. then you have to get the windlace right to kill wind noise.

What about some type of sealer to hide the seams left in someone elses body panel or floor patch. Most of the stuff I hav seen isn't thick enough to fill some of the gaps of the metal overlayment under the car. You knoe the type of gaps when metal is placed over metal to patch holes and not finished off properly.

Use seam sealer first. Let it cure out for a couple days.
Then Lizard Skin
