OK, lets say I am trying to convert a front drum to disc brakes and also say the spindle is an odd one. What is the IDEAL inner bearing to spindle clearance? Outter? Any other solutions such as machining a sleeve to fit the spindle?

Jerry the inner race should be an interferance fit.......meaning that the od of the spindle and the id of the race should be identical if you are measuring with a standard vernier. If you are using micrometer it would be about .0002 at the maximum. you don't want the race to turn on the spindle at all. I have seen spacers available at Speedway, usually when adapting Granada or GM rotors to Ford spindles.
