we got the cab off and now time for fixing some swiss cheese problems in the floor and corners

my dad still wants me do to a total original restoration and i'm not sure what i want to to yet because i want a bad A@@ ride but original might be a little easier and cheaper but original trucks just aren't that cool to me

Since it is your first attempt at a whole vehicle, keep it as simple as possible. The success rate will be higher and then you can work up to another project with confidence. That truck will look just as nice with a few small mods. If the drivetrain works and you aren't bucks up, just do a real good clean and re gasket job, new points, condenser and plugs and wires.Concentrate on safety and cleanliness instead of trying to build an all out custom. you have a nice truck and you will feel good whenever you drive it,either rodded or restored.

Either way you go it can get expensive. If it was mine I would street rod it because if you decide to sell it you have a better chance of getting your money back. I don't know your age or your DADS age but try to find some one with a stock vehicle and a street rod of the same year and take a ride with them and then decide. I think your dad would like the rod. Just my opinion.

We have to respect our dads, but who is going to drive it, you or him? Think it through pretty good first, so you don't regret the decision later.

i'm 18 and my dad is 51, we know some one with a 49 chevy sitting on a 4x4 frame with a 350 in it. never riden in it, its cool and all but not my style. theres not to many people in centeral minn. that have old hotrods that i know off. everybody has a jacked up mudd truck or a bunch of fourwheelers. i'm kinda by myself with hotrodding in my little town, but thats alright i like to stand out and be different

'50 Chevy hardtop, six cylinder. Couldn't handle the stocker so split the manifold....Porter steel packs...nice rap & pop. Need more poop. Went to a 292 Jimmy, nah. Hello 283....never looked back > July 1958.

My Dad told me the same thing......He wore a zoot suit, I wore peg pants and a Mr. B (Billy Exstine) shirt. Dad liked Frank Sinatra, I liked Fats Domino and Bill Haley. His treads were penny loafers, mine , snap top boomers with 1" crepe soles.

Gotta respect your Dad, but...............

Jim said it.

I believe that Dad may just want you to keep it simple, but for resale streetrod will sell higher than the stocker sometimes 5 to 1. DavyJ is on to something, make it pretty with nice paint and some wheels and get it running and drive it for a while. You can always do anything you want. The hard part is getting the body looking good IMHO.
80 pounds won't hurt anything.
