Got to go in tomorrow for a heart cath-just wondering if anybody here has had one? Freakin out a little!

Greg, Don't freak it's a routine op now because it's been done so often. A good friend of mine had it done last year, say's he feels like a new man and he wishes he hadn't waited so long.
Greg, Believe me it's no big deal. I had one 2 years ago. They went in, found a blockage, inserted a stent, I woke up. felt fine. They kept me in the hospital overnight, not because of the stent, but because they like to make sure where they insert the cath is doing OK. Everyone I talked to thought I looked better (at least as good as I can look) after the procedure. My color was better, I felt like a had more energy, etc.....The procedure was done on a Friday and I was back to work on Monday. BTW--I was freakin out a little before mine as well.
i had one about 14 years ago and go for my annual stress test every year ,,, ya get enough drugs where ya cant get off the table ,best part is ya get to watch the whole thing ,,, how many ya got blocked ?? ol bear ,,,,,, rodded out ,,, thats me ,,,,
Had 1 14 years ago another last year. The worst part is the anticapation before you go in, they give you a "twilight" to settle you down and then just leave the driveing to them! I had a stent put in last year and I'm going to see my Cardiologist in about an hour for a check up. Don't sweat it Greg how ever it goes you'll be in good hands, with all the technology they have now it's become a very routine procedure. Best of luck and let us know how it goes, Bob
My dad had a double bypass about 15 years ago. The surgeon had five of them scheduled before lunch. Had no idea they did that many of them. I felt a lot better once I heard that. My sister-in-law is an open heart surgery head nurse. She says once they get you cleaned out, you will be better than before since the heart is getting the oxygen it needs. Don't sweat it bigdude!
I have not had a heart cath but I have had part of the procedure when I had to have some arteries closed off after a high risk pregnancy. They insert in the same place. Loved the stuff they give you- like they said you can watch the procedure and it is very cool- no pain.

I dont know anything about it big D but I am ceratin you are in good hands- Dont sweat it- We'll be thinkin about you..let us know how it goes
Agree with the others, have had 3 heart caths, quad bypass surgery and a stint. Simple procedure and they can fix the problem right there if its a single blockage. Prayers are with you but don't worry about it. Consider yourself one of the lucky ones, many never get the opportunity to check it out before a heart attack.
Wife had one last year. She was in and out in a short time and went home that afternoon. If they keep you it will be to make sure the hole where they went in is good. Neat pictures on DVD came with it! Good luck and we'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Let us know how it goes.
Greg, it's a piece of cake. I had my first one about 6 years ago when they found my torn valve, and then a couple more to moniter the internal pressure. I think the worst part was sitting there with the weight on the entry site, but like the others have said, you can watch on a screen if you want. Nothing to worry about.

I can't believe you are going in!! You gotta have a heart before they can check on it!! :-) Don't worry, bro. It's easier than getting your tonsils out..................so they tell me. Are you sure your not going in just to chase nurses around? Will be thinking of you an saying a prayer.
zinski3......Had the tonsils removed when i was 25, and a couple of caths over the past ten years. i was fortunate taht i didn't need any work done, but I'll take a cath to the tonsil removement anytime.
bigdude....Normal to be a bit nervous about anything they do like this, but don't fret. It's a piece of cake. Are they doing it through the thigh, or through a wrist? The wrist procedure was much easier recovery than the thigh thing. Toughest part of the whole process with the thigh process, was spending 4-6 hours with the leg locked down afterwards to prevent movement. Prayers and thoughts are with you.
Had a stent in 97 in a very tough spot. Just make sure you don't get the coated ones. Stress test every year is a must to pick up on any problems. Good luck, you will be fine.
roofcam, I agree the being clamped to the table was weird....never heard of the wrist thing but I bet they are going to come up with great new ways to do these now that they are so common. Sorry bigdude no horseshoes for you if you come to Springfield in July!

Had one about two years ago, was a fairly simple procedure. Was home resting about three hours later. But here's what happened. I was told not to lift anything over 5 or 10 pounds. I was getting bored sitting around doing nothing, so i went and picked up my briefcase to look at something i had brought home from work. I got what i wanted and went to use the computer. As soon as i sat down it felt like i got hit in the family jewels, you guys know what i mean!. I stood up and saw a huge buldge about the size of a softball a couple inches above the incision. I showed my wife and she freaked out ,called the hospital and informed them what had happened. They told her to have me lay flat with a 5 pound bag of sugar or flour on the buldge for a couple hours and it should go away. Well it did. So Greg , don't pick up anything heavy for a while, or you'll end up with a buldge. That's my story and i'm sticking too it!
Just got home every thing is flowing like it should-do have a part of my heart that is putting out too much pressure. That just takes extra meds-the heart cath was cake, its that damn sitting around with a sack on your leg that sucks. The nurses were checking on my incision every 15 min--I would like to think they were amazed! (oh shut up!)

Probably amazed you were still ticking. Glad everything went well. I was going to ask if I could have your truck if you didn't make it but was pretty sure you would. Oh well.
