Any half decent hydraulics shop should be able to put new seals in that old jack. Of course it might cost more than a new one. But who would care if it were to last another 25 years.

About 5 years ago my floor jack cylinder went bad. I wasn't mad because, after all I bought it in 1972. I went looking for a new one, all that i could find were junk so I rebuilt the cylinder and even though the parts cost me as much as a new jack I feel that I'm better off. Re build the old one you will be happier. Jack

I have gone thru the same thing with jacks. They last about a year and start to leak down. Repair cost about the same as a new one. I know of several people who have those LARGE floor jacks from back in the 60sor so and they are still working fine. Craftsmen 1/4 ratchet...been thru many and fear putting torque on any of them. Throw away stuff anymore.

About 3 months ago I bought a new aluminum roller jack from Sears ( craftsman) that thing will not stay up with a feather on it. Its brand new, but I have no receipt. I threw it out, with the thinking that Craftsman jacks will work forever. Boy was I wrong.

My friend bought a big floor jack like the one Willy33 is talking at Harbor Freight 2.5 years ago he has a shop and abuse it every day and still holding up ,it has a hell of lift but it takes alot of space twice the lenght of a 2.5 ton jack, he previosly bought 2-2.5 ton jack one when out about 6months the other a year later, the big jack had the handle return spring break but he found a spring to work .

Several things I would like to point out. First, I say dont buy a NASCAR type jack. Not that it's inferior but the front roller doesn't seem to roll across the (rough) concrete floor to stay directly under a load. Result is that the jack slips from under the car. Second...remember when Wal-Mart big thing was "American Made" Gone! Remember when Craftsman was quality tools forever. Gone. Come on in and get a junk replacement.

FLOOR JACKS ? Just like everything in life "you get what you pay for". After retirement (sorta) I work P.T. at my brother-in-law's tire shop. He buy $69.00 floor jacks from Sams. He's gone thru 4 in last two years! He wont spend the $$ for good ones? I have a good old "Walker" 1 1/2 ton floorjack that works great....and I bought that USED in mid-70s. No BS!

FYI....let me share how I was told the cheap jacks are rated. EX: The weight is placed on the USA jacks then it's pumped to lift that load. If it "LIFTS" 2 ton, is a 2 ton jack. The cheeepo jacks are pumped up with NO weight then when in the up position, 2 tons is placed on the jack. If it will "hold" (not lift) the 2 tons, they rate it as a 2 ton! Big difference. I solded jacks at my Napa store for years (when Napa jacks were "Walker, then Lincoln" and that is how I was told that cheap jacks work.

Streetrodder007, since only Sears sells Craftsman you may not need a receipt to return it. Maybe even get your money back if you complain loudly.

Lately i check what kind of warranty comes with what i buy and most of the jacks have a 90 day warranty from the day of purchse,Sears will tell you there warranty is s only on Craftsman hand tools ,when my Torque wrench started skipping when i applied torque, took it back, it only had a 1 year replacement but they could have repaired at my cost, eveything craftsman is not lifetime like it used to be ,read the fine print.I have a lot of Craftsman tools and have gotten great service out of them but they are not what they use to be.
