Hi All,

I had installed a mini starter on my 2004 GM 350HO crate motor and recently I am experiencing a grinding sound once in a while. It is not every time but when it does grind as it's cranking it's embarrassing. So it seems as if the selonoid is no kicking the gear completely to the fly wheel every time.

Any thoughts?

Since it is not all the time I believe I would look at teeth on flex(flywheel)plate. If just few teeth are damage in one spot your noise maybe just when you get to that area.Remove dust plate and look at that before spendind money on solinoid. If shims were needed it would be all the time.Good luck

REMEMBER THE SHIM THAT CAME WITH IT ?? ITS CIRCULAR , ITS FOR THE STARTER DRIVE ,, MAY NEED 2 OF THEM ,ALSO CHECK THE DRIVE GEAR CLEARANCE. IF THERE ARE ANY SHIMS IN THE 2 STARTER BOLTS TRY REMOVING THEM ,, IM SURE THE GUYS WILL COME UP WITH MORE IDEAS ,,BUT ITS A GOOD START ,,,, ,, PS, THE CIRCULAR SHIM PULLS THE NOSE OF THE DRIVE GEAR AWAY FROM THE FLEX PLATE ,,,,,OL BEAR

Most of the aftermarket, China, $69, mini starters with aluminum adapter are for a fork lift = junk. Go OEM
