Some may think that Marines need sensitivity training. I just want you to know that GSgt Emery could have written the Sensitivity Syllabus for Marines. Sadly he and Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore, Susan Sarandon, Hillary Clinton, Borac Obama, and so many others never had a chance to discuss the value of the Gunny’s approach.

For the few of you who missed him, R. Lee Ermey is the host of The History Channel's 'Mail Call' and played the Drill Instructor in the movie, 'Full Metal Jacket.' He is a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant and a very plain speaker, as you will soon read. So, for your entertainment, here is Retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Ermey at his first press conference. The main topic of discussion is the Marine in Iraq who shot the Iraq insurgent to death.

We pick up as the reporter asks about how this potential war crime will affect our image in the world:

Ermey: 'WHAT KIND OF A PANSY-ASSED QUESTION IS THAT?'

Reporter 1: 'Well I think....'

Ermey: 'THINK, FANCY BOY?! GET THIS THROUGH THAT SEPTIC TANK ON TOP OF YOUR SHOULDERS, MORON : I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT YOU THINK, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?? THAT MARINE SHOT AN ENEMY COMBATANT, SHITHEAD; SO GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS AND DEAL WITH IT BEFORE I MAKE YOU MY OWN PERSONAL PIN CUSHION!!!

NEXT QUESTION: YOU IN THE BLUE SUIT.'

Reporter 2: Don't you think that the world's opinion of our operations is important?

Ermey: 'OH SURE! YOU DON'T KNOW THE TIMES I HAVE CRIED MYSELF TO SLEEP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT SOME GODDAMNED FRENCH PANSY THINKS! OH THE DAYS I HAVE HAD TO WEEP BECAUSE SOME SHIT EATING TERRORIST SCUMBAG MIGHT BE MAD AT US, BECAUSE WE WENT INTO WHATEVER GOD FORSAKEN HOLE IN THE SHIT THAT HE LIVES IN AND KILLED HIM. WHAT THE HELL KIND OF DUMBASS QUESTION IS THAT YOU PETER-PUFFING JACKASS? WE ARE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , AND WHEN YOU ATTACK US, WE ARE GOING TO COME TO YOUR HOUSE AND BLOW YOUR STINKING CAMEL-LICKING CARCASS INTO PIECES SO SMALL WE WILL BE ABLE TO BURY YOUR SORRY ASS IN A THIMBLE! YEAH, I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINKING. YOU ARE PROBABLY AFRAID, THINK ING THAT I HAVE SUCH AN 'EXTREME' ATTITUDE AND THAT I NEED TO BE MORE 'SENSITIVE' TO OTHER PEOPLE'S FEELINGS. WELL LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING YOU POLE-SMOKING PANSY! I DON'T GIVE TWO SHITS WHAT YOU OR ANYBODY ELSE THINKS! THIS IS A DAMN WAR, AND IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THAT, THEN YOU SHOULD GO HOME AND SUCK ON MAMMA'S TIT! DO YOU HEAR ME YOU RUNT? NOW GET THE HELL OUT OF MY PRESS ROOM BEFORE I GO CRAZY AND BEAT THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF YOU!!

N EXT QUESTION: YOU WITH THE UGLY-ASSED TIE, LOOK AT THAT THING! IT IS HIDEOUS!'

Reporter 3: 'Aren't you going against the freedom of the press by..'

Ermey: 'FREEDOM? WHAT IN BLUE HELL DO YOU KNOW ABOUT FREEDOM? I HAVE SWEATED MY ASS OFF IN JUNGLES, WHILE BEING SHOT AT FOR THIS NATION! WHAT IN THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE YOU LITTLE SHIT-SUCKING WEASEL? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU PUT YOUR ASS ON THE LINE FOR ANYTHING? AND YET YOU HAVE THE UNMITIGATED TEMERITY TO SHOW UP HERE AND MONDAY-MORNING QUARTERBACK THE ACTIONS OF A BRAVE MARINE, WHO WAS DEFENDING HIMSELF AND HIS UNIT FROM AN ATTACK BY SOME MURDEROUS AL-QUEDA SYMPATHIZER!! YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT, NUMB-NUTS? I AM CONCERNED ABOUT A BUNCH OF GRABASSTIC, ORGANIZED MORONS WITH CAMERAS AND MICROPHONES DOING THEIR BEST TO PORTRAY OUR BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN AS WAR CRIMINALS! I AM CONCERNED ABOUT CHICKEN-SHIT PANSIES THAT WANT US TO NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORISTS AND WHINE ABOUT THEIR PISS-ANT 'FREEDOMS'!!

Reporter 3: 'I ...'

Ermey: 'DID YOU HAVE A BIG BOWL OF STUPID FOR BREAKFAST THIS MORNING, NUMBNUTS? I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER WORD OUT OF THAT COMMIE CRY HOLE IN THAT SHIT-PILE YOU CALL A HEAD! AND THAT GOES TRIPLE FOR THE REST OF YOU PANSY-ASSED MORONS! NOW GET THE HELL OUT OF MY PRESS ROOM BEFORE I SHOVE MY BOOT SO FAR UP YOUR ASS THAT YOU CHOKE TO DEATH ON MY SHOELACES!!!!'

You need to read some of the background on him getting the part for Kubric's "Full Metal Jacket." He was only supposed to be an "advisor" (he helped recreate the Parris sets). His language was so colorful that Kubric hired him (after he explained to Stanley what a "reach around" was). All of his dialouge in the movie is impromptu as well. He also broke all of his ribs on the left side during filming. Ermey is a tough hombre.

First let me say that I am on this site several times a day, but not to often do I post. I read a learn from the Pro's, and saved myself several dollars and much grief by paying attention to them. This post by Al really gets me going, because like many have been there and done that. I have never and will never, play the politics game...in life or war. We have a society full of cry baby self serving politicians, who have no idea what it takes in combat to get things done. If they had to send a son or daughter to war, and find out that they were KIA ie: head cut off or stripped and dragged through the streets of some foreign country....bet they would view things a little different. I remember standing in the cold with no hair and tears rolling out, staring at the Code of Military Justice in front of me in the rain. My DI called me every name in the book, and told me what was happening to my girlfriend while I was gone. I was never so degraded and humiliated in my life, as I was that day. Our platoon leader was SSgt. Weatherford, and like GSgt. Ermey never minced his words. We were all torn down to the lowest form of life....then the building of a Marine and a man began. Then I went to Viet Nam....and it all came together, I learned why I was talked to like I was and treated the way I was. So I say to GSgt. Ermey and to SSgt. Weatherford from the rice pads of Nam to the comforts of my home...Thank you for the abusive language and learning technique, because of this I survived and I am alive today.

37tin I made my comment in the context all Marines might well be considered insensitive by most. Marines tend to look at things a great deal differently than most which means their responses can be different than perhaps expected and often seen as insensitive. Actually can be blunt as a sledge hammer at times.

That seeing of things differently starts with Boot Camp, which is unquestionably the nearest thing to hell one can experience outside of being in a combat zone. A Marine D.I. is often thought of as being the most insensitive S.O.B there is. They are, at least with those in their charge. The purpose of all of that is to weed out those who may not be mentally or physically capable of survival in combat or surviving the being a prisoner of war. It's all about the developing a mental toughness which is the foundation upon which all future training will rest.

Being a Marine D.I. unquestionably qualifies a person to be seen as insensitive in the eyes of others. However, beneath that exterior there is a sensitive human being. During the late 1960's I cannot tell you how many D.I.s would secretly go off and cry after the graduation of their platoons. We cried because we knew a number of those we had just spent 13 or more weeks with would not be coming back from Vietnam alive regardless of having given their training the best shot. After the crying would come the cussing and anger over young men being sent in harms way, though it is their job. Once through that cycle you just had to suck it up and move on as in a few days there would be another 80 kids arriving to turn into Marines.

I never was accepted into the military, mostly because of being a hellion and having a criminal record. At that time the military was only accepting prime people. I can see why. It's to those who are in the service and were and who will be, that I owe my freedom and I dare say my life to. I never miss an opportunity to shake the hand of one who I see in military dress, regardless of the Branch. I don't know who they are or what rank and position they hold, to me they are all HEROES!

Thank you and GOD BLESS YOU!

Discussions like this can take place because people like the US Marines have fought for us to enjoy this great country of ours and to write most anything we want in these forums. Its just a small laugh that alot of us can remember. Both good times and bad.
I do believe the guys who started Hotrodding and Choppers were former Military coming back from WW1 & WW2 if I remember correctly- so there is the tie in for you.

The Political beef is what I have, I am not thrilled with anyone throwing political threads here and there. Regarless whether its Al , or someone else crying about the economy, If we are open to talk politics I could be very busy speaking of our current administrations downfalls but I refrain from it due to the respect for AL and the others who dont wish to hear my opinion on the such, No disrespect to anyone in uniform past or present, I thank all who have served past and presently- our debt to you could never be repaid.I just dont want to hear the political nonsense here, its everywhere else you look. It never leads to anything productive or respectful, and that has been the basis of this site, When it changes (which it seems to be) Then I am history. I have placed alot of classified ads on here and enjoy the forums greatly..

The military, regardless of which branch, needs recognition for the jobs they do. They sure don't seem to get it when they return from a foreign land. A salute to them when ever and where ever possible

Dave there was NO political motive in posting this... being a marine like many others here I felt it was light hearted and would bring a chuckle to most... you need to lighten up and not be so serious about life... and I don't expect this to turn into a pissing contest either... nuff said semperfi

Never was in any military, but i certainly admire any one who has. Without the sacrifices of a few, the many would have much different lives. I think this post is a positive sign of the healthy attitude here! God Bless all those who do their part to support those who give it all.

It seems like there are quite a few former marines on this site. SEMPER FI guys.
