I am installing a puller fan, with a shroud on my truck. Where is the best placement of the fan, top, center or bottom of the radiator, or does it make a difference.

Lynn

I DISAGREE WITH THEM I THINK IT SHOULD B IN THE CENTER IF POSSIBLE TO KEEP FROM HAVING UNEVEN HEAT IN RAIATOR. MOST FANS ARE PLACED AT THE TOP ONLY BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT CLEAR THE PULLEYS DOWN LOWER.

DIXIE { OF COURSE I ANT ALWAYS RIGHT}

I would say top also since hot water from eng.enters at top and you need to start cooling that hot water as soon as possible.

hotrodgene is correct in that ALL the hot water from the engine enters the radiator at the upper hose. Therefore you need to begin the cooling as soon as posible . as the air is pulled thru your radiator is cools the hottest water first, progressively getting cooler as it travels downward in the radiator. Finally the lowed temp water goes back into the block to absorb more heat and the process starts all over again. So put the fan as close to the top as posible

I agree with Dixie....Center and get as large as one will fit....16 or 17 inch fan, try to cover as much area as possible...Looks like you have plenty of room ...

Ideally the fan shroud should cover the entire core so the fan can move air across it when sitting. As you know when moving this is happening anyway and then the entire radiator is working as it was intended. As was stated previously, the hot water passes the Thermostat and into the radiator through the upper hose on most applications. So it makes sense to start cooling there as soon as you can. If the fan only covers part of the core, then that is the only part that is cooling efficiently.

I agree with Jaws, should have shroud covering whole radiator, if not then mounted as close to the top as possible.

I was thinking top also, just wanted to confirm sure.

It will have a shroud 5/8" from the fins, so air SHOULD be moving over the entire radiator anyway. It is a 16" fan also.

Thanks guys.

ILL TOOT MY WHISTLE ,I KNOW FROM EXP ,CENTER IS BEST , ITS EASY TO GET AIR INTO A RADIATOR =POSITIVE PRESSSURE,, THATS THE FRONT SIDE ,, NOW COMES THE TRICKY PART U NEED PLENTY OF NEGATIVE PRESSURE ON THE BACK SIDE PULLING THE AIR THROUGH,IF UR NOT USING AN ELECTRIC FAN U NEED TO HAVE THE FAN ABOUT 1IN. FROM THE CORE SO THAT IT DRAWS THE AIR THROUGH OR UR JUST WASTING UR TIME ,, ANY ???,, JUST ASK ME ABOUT THE 25,000.00 BRAYTON MIDGET MOTOR WE COOKED ,, LESSON LEARNED THE HARD WAY ,, OL BEAR ,, HEY GRACE WIFEY FIXED THE PIC 4 YA ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 708 917 4756 HOME ALL DAY RETARDED OR IS IT RETIRED,PS DONT THROW THE SPRG AWAY IN LOWR HOSE

Lynn.....max heat is at top of radiator. place it at 1/8" from the botom of top tank. How many cfm? 2300 or more I hope ? 16" ?. Controlled by ? Check the load on directions...how many amps at max? Use correct wire size thru out. #14 AWG minimum. DO NOT ground to radiator or sheet metal. Take ground back to grounding block. Anchor on radiator metal sides only..left and right verticles.
I use a 5 blade when it will fit.
Congrats on picking a puller and NOT a pusher.
Have fun

center center center check all new cars trucks big tractors Ect.check the schrouds u buy with them see where they're located, this keeps from hot spotting the radiator, like i said sometimes u can't get it in the center because of engine pulley locations.see that ad at the top of these post {cooling components} just give them a call.

Centered, with shroud that covers most of the core. Lincoln MKVII works great in most applications but is a power hog (80 amp high speed startup) Wire accordingly

I have the new cooling componets fan, 17 inch flush mount and its to the top of my walker radiator, in my 46. Cools great. I have had 3 cooling componet fans over the years and all mounted at the top. Why let the hot water go back into the block. Whats the weather going to be in Myrtle beach for the show.
