When removing front fenders on a model A coupe, Do you have to remove body bolts? Also to remove the panel above the running boards, do you have to remove body bolts? And... if one decides to remove the body, are there ten bolts connecting it and just how hard is this process? When removing doors, is it best to take the screws out connecting it to the cab, or the pins? Last how heavy is the body?

Body bolts must come out before fenders or aprons can come off. 8-10 bolts should be all holding the body down. I have no idea on the weight of body. I would guess 700-800 lbs, depending on seats, glass & whatever else you still have in it.

Three strong guys can lift and move an A-bone body if it's empty. I wouldn't recommend doing so, but I'd guess that would probably make it 500-700 lbs. Of course, if there's a lot of body filler the weight goes up.

I think Lynn is right, I think the front two body bolts go through the front fenders. My '31 had 8 body bolts, not 10.

Removing doors? Pull the pins, but be careful and use patience!

The 28-29 Model A's don't require removal of any body mounting bolts to remove the front or rear fenders, but I'm not certain about the 30-31s. The side splash aprons definitely require removal of the body bolts. If you strip off as much as possible (doors by removing the pins, visor, trim, deck lid, windshield, side glass, etc.) you should be able to lift the body off with 3 or 4 guys. A word of warning - don't feed them any beer until AFTER the body has been removed. You might want to build yourself a simple wood roll-around frame to set the body on. Don't remove the door hinge screws otherwise you'll have a tough time aliging the doors again.

here's a tip for body removal if you have a cherry picker type engine hoist: get a piece of steel channel or square tubing long enough to reach thru both door openings. weld a couple tabs in the center that will bolt up to the hoist thru the holes where the chain is normally attached. bolt it up with the tubing on TOP of the arm & voila! a body lift. i removed & replaced the body on the 37 sedan delivery & the 36 p/u cab by myself using this method.

Removing and installing new running boards...30 model A coupe question?

I am a bit confused as the new running boards look like they have no apron connected to them but the old running boards are one peice, apron and running board.

If your approns are attached to your boards the someone has done this, they are seperate pieces from fomoco.I have a 30 coupe that I took apart as an original car.

Dave is correct the 30 was the only Model A like this 28 to 30 and 31 had one piece apron and boards. The 30 had 3 pieces.

So what now? I have ordered new running boards. Maybe I should have just replaced the rubber and trim.

Frank: Now you got me curious. Can you post a couple photos of where the running boards meet the front fenders and splash apron and the same at the rear fenders. Mine is a 29, but the configuration for a 30 - 31 is pretty similar. You guys with 30 -31 Model A's, thake a look at the photo of Frank's car and the seam where the splash apron meets the rear fender. Does that vertical contour look stock?

I am not sure on a coupe. I sold my coupe almost 2 years ago. It looks like it has a vertical step. Never saw a one piece apron/running board. I have saw two piece aprons.

I admit robert after looking at it I was wondering also, but it is correct- just looks a little different due to the primer I guess- But yes it is the same as mine is. From the picture though the board looks like it is seperate from the apron to me???

I will submit some pictures for you to see. The only thing I can guess is that the guy that owned the car before me installed the running boards that are a part of the apron.

I took some pics, but haven't had a chance to get them here. I was wondering if there is a way to cut the aprons and attach the new running boards. Anyone run into this before?

The running boards & aprons should not be attached to each other. The running board sits in a "V" channel on the bottom of the apron & bolts to 2 brackets underneath. If your running boards & aprons are one piece, someone has welded them together.

First I would like to say , Welcome back crazyhorse. I have ordered and received my epoxy primer. I am considering ordering the Iwata LPH400LV spray gun today from spraygun world. 398.00 / free shipping.

about the running boards...it is one peice, no welds. I just went on Speedwaymotors.com and they sell running boardsattached to apron.
