I have some surface rust on the floorpan and some parts underneath. Really don't feel like dragging it to the blasters because maybe they will warp a panel and fight sand falling out of every crack evermore. The people that have used, say POR-15 or other products like it, what do you say? Last for 5 years?

Jerry, Ive used Por -15 on many things. Good product if used right. My opinion shouldnt just paint it over rust, even though they say you can, I would sand or grind off as much as you can first then paint. It works by sealing oxygen out so rust doesnt continue so you must cover it good. The bad, if sun or ultaviolet rays gets it it eats up the paint. Try the chassi black for topcoat. I like it. CK

Hi Jerry, be sure to cover all surfaces of the rusted item. As you know, there are car bodies from the 1920s-1930s still sitting in the New Mexico sun with a covering of solid but thin rust over their entire surface. As soon as you restrict the surface area by sealing it and leave only one bare place, electrolysis will focus on that one spot and be through it quicker than a bullet. I have used Por-15 and been happy with it, even used Rustoleum and been happy. Key is to cover all the surface so no oxygen gets to it like CK said. Good luck.

Hi Jerry, I have used POR for about 25 years now. It works GREAT! If snake oil would work this well I would reccomend it too. I agree that you should remove the loose rust as well as possible, but there needs to be some rust for the product to adhere. I once painted it over some factory paint (on a floor board) and it blew off with an air hose. POR stands for "paint over rust", not "paint over paint". Also, wear gloves and don't get it on your skin. If you do, don't try to wash it off. Water is what sets it and you end up with a semi permenant tatoo. If you use laquer thinner right away it will sometimes come off, but better not to get it on you in the first place. I know some people react with disgust of the very idea of covering up rust, but it works very well if used correctly and can save a whole lot of uneccesary work.

Jerry you know some time ago Rust Bullet signed with us and sponsored the Extreme Makeover project by sending some to Al to use. He said it was easy to apply and so far no rust trouble in his floor boards or anywhere it was applied. They have a great web site full of user testimony and their following is growing and growing. They have a comparison to POR and other similar products

My dear I know you are just messin with me but Al's Extreme Makeover project used plenty of our advertisers products (sort of as a testing ground) and when something works, you share it!!! The comparison chart, that was my special touch.

Very interesting. Maybe a test where I sandblast and cover with DP90, another with POR-15, a third with Rust Bullet and a forth with Rustolium. All will most likely outlast me or at least our oil supply. Less work than I thought!
