Hot Time in the Heartland as many of you know has changed to a ala carte cruise weekend. We are finishing the final papers with the Hilton in Springfield and should have a number to use for the room discount. The current pricing is $89.00 for single or double occupancy with a 10% tax. This is a great savings from their regular $120.00+ rate. This is a full service hotel with a newly added Bennigans restaurant on the top floor (30 story building) Each room will include one parking spot in their attached ramp which has 24 hour security with camera's on every floor. We are working on a possible room rental for Friday night that would allow us a place to gather if the weather is too muggy, or wet. Now...we will also get the top floor of the ramp on Saturday night for our fireworks viewing. Just us, and our cars watching the stars and the fireworks. I will say the viewing is a bit better from the top floor restaurant but we can play this by ear since by staying at the Hilton there is no charge for the party on the roof.

Saturday those who want to join us will be cruisin 28 miles to Lincoln, IL for a small town cruise in and festival. Flea markets, plenty of cars parked around the square showing off for the crowd. We will be there from 11-3. At 3:00 we can head back toward Springfield and stop off in Sherman (a little suburb located on Route 66) for a free cruise in (4-7) at Ray's 66 Cafe. This has been arranged for us by the Route 97 Cruisaders Car Club and will include door prizes and a chance to grab a bite for dinner if you wish. Then we can head back to town (still working on plans for later that evening) All and all it is shaping up nicely and I hope you will all join me in Springfield!!!

For those of us who may be less than familiar with this event what are the dates?

And Larry gasoline prices will probably level out by the time of the event whenever it is to around $3.25 a gallon, maybe a few cents more if in July or August. In other words, it ain't going to be getting any cheaper! I'm thinking of buying a flock of sheep for lawn maintenance given it's now costing me about $30 every time I mow the grass around the house.

Sounds good Tammy. I'll be passing through Springfield on Sunday and Monday. If there is anything I can do to help out let me know. Is Shea's still in the mix?

Brian, Yes, Shea's is still a stop. I am trying to arrange a morning viewing and maybe something on Friday afternoon with them so people will have a choice.

Starfire- this is July 4th and 5th in soon to be sunny Springfield, IL This was originally a show we were going to put on but there were too many big events and such so we thought we would try this for 2008 and see how it grows for 2009.

As for the gas....well it is $3.16 today in Springfield but you never know what Governor Rod will cook up by summer. I think goats do nice lawn maintenance. Does anyone have a new electric mower?

Goats are not a good idea. They tend to be a bit like a cat and want to be in a high place. Which means they have no scruples about jumping on the hood or top of your cars. Not good!

Oh, never thought about that. I had a dog jump on my car a few years back and scratch the crap out of it. Still waiting to have it buffed again. Darn dog! I found him a new home with a guy who did not have any cars and bought shorter dogs.

Yes they are some bully looking gals. The big white one has her own video on Youtube. She is walking on the treadmill. Sure has helped get her weight in order. If the weather is not too hot you will probably see at least one of the gals with me in July.

Is this the same Hilton hotel right by Lincolns home? Went through there yesterday, very nice. I think this is going to be a very good thing for anyone attending. Nice job Tammy.

If you were in Springfield yesterday it is the tallest building. Yes, it is within walking distance to the Abe Lincoln Presidential Library, the Lincoln Herndon Law office building and really not far from Lincolns Home, the church with his church pew, and the spot where the funeral train came in. It has been newly remodeled so it should be quite nice. I am taking a tour in the next couple of weeks (when I get a chance)

OK, I'm the dummy. Is the hilton right off of 55 or is it in town. Drove through town on 55 earlier this week and saw a tall Holiday inn northeast of the city and other hotels. was wondering if that is the area.

Never Mind! I went to the Hilton website and found out it is located downtown. What caught my eye, as I was driving by, doing the speed limit, was a sign for a Hilton Gardens and thought that might be it. Sorry for the posting.

The biggest hotel may technically now be the Crowne Plaza- easily visible from I55 but I have approached them and did not get a favorable response (room rate) and they do not have much around them to do. The Hilton being centrally located offers many great options for visitors and is right off of 66. It is also pretty easy to get to by taking several of the Springfield exits. I will have all that information for you soon. I have just been so darned busy!

Dennis the hotel is located right off 66 and is very close to many Lincoln sites,( walking distance). I also went through the town of Lincoln where the first cruise is scheduled for Saturday. It will remind you of Quincy except all the stores around the square are occupied and open for bussiness. I also went past Ray's Diner. It also looks like a nice place. This is shaping up very nice.

Thanks Brian, I think so too. As far as the hotel is concerned we have a contract to look over for the free parking on Friday night and then we will have a reservation number - maybe they can give us something we can remember like 289, 302, 409, 427, 429, 440, or 502 (my personal favorite) I will see if I can get Al and Eriq to look this over so I can sign it.

You know they make these cool trailers you can pull behind. And actually how many clothes do you really need? Grab a toothbrush and some clean shorts and you should be good to go! LOL
