Early forty and older cars/trucks use welt in between fenders and the body, running boards, aprons and so on i know they eliminate rubbing and protect the paint to prevent rust but through time if not installed right they work themselves out around curves,i saw on a episode of CUT ,CHOP,REBUILD where i think it was a 37 ford where they sprayed something like RHINO LINER instead of using the welt it looks cleaner, is it any better,?i know there are companys that make a similar product but have a different name, i seen one call "Color Me Hippo"you add color to it before applying it so matchs the color of your vehicle.

We built a 34 Ply a couple of yearsago. My buddy did ot want welting. We coated the mating surfaces with the plastic "dip" product used on pliers. Been about 5 years and it's still holing up fine.

here's another trick you might want to consider ( i'm telling my secrets here ... ) i finish all my gaps during the bodywork process as if i weren't going to run welting. i then use a piece of the plastic seat welting purchased from the interior shop. its a much smaller diameter than regular welting which gives a cleaner look, especially if painted body color. i can explain the special painting process if interested. check out the welt in the rear fender & in the front between the fender & grille.
