Sclerosis of the Liver is a really bad rap. But we all know the primary reason it occurs which may explain Boyd's often irrational behavior with his shop personnel on TV.
Let's hope they can come up with a transplant for him and quick!
Yeah, but I'm now not sure the Sclerosis of the liver thing is accurate. It was reported on Jan. 25, 2008 he had been hospitalized for emergency surgery and his wife indicated the procedure (whatever it was) went well and he was recovering nicely.
After that Boyd just seems to have fallen beneath the radar. His web site has nothing on it about him being ill.
This is very sad news, no matter who it refers to. I guess on his T.V. show, he always seemed to have unrealistic demands and expectations of his employees, but not knowing him, I never really knew how much of that was the drama of T.V. What I also saw in Boyd was a genuine, heartfelt compassion for disabled people. And, that tells me he has a big heart. If any of you have any way of communicating with Boyd, or those close to him, please let him know that a whole bunch of us are praying for his recovery. If, God willing, he recovers from this, I'll guarantee you, he'll be a changed man.
The info that he is doing fine is a month old. The news today is that he is not doing well at all and not expected to live. Cirrhosis of the liver can be caused by a number of things other than alcohol, and diabetes is one of them. Pray that he will improve and recover.
Most of us here aren't necessarily fans of Boyd and have our reasons. Regardless, he is a street rodder for sure and I'll put my differences aside. My prayers are with him and his family.
Thanks for letting us know about him, I wouldn't have known otherwise.
I just read that Boyd passed away this morning. No details. A very sad event for sure. I had a lot of respect for him and don't believe he was as rough as he was made out to be. I had met him and talked to him a few times over the years and he always treated me with respect. No one can deny the talent he had and the major impact he had on this sport and other automotive interests. My sympathies to his wife. family and staff
Whether you liked him or not, he made a huge contribution to this hobby. In recent years he brought hot rodding to a different level through inovative styling and trend setting designs. Through his TV productions, he brought a lot of public awareness and interest to this hobby. The hot rod world lost one of it's biggest players today.
I like many do not care for Boyd, But let's pray for him and him family. It is true that he has cared for his disabled brother for years.God Bless, Boyd and his family friends and business associates.
Boyd was an Icon for the street rodding industry and set the standard for all the current day builders to strive for. He helped establish street rodding as an industry and for that he should be remembered and respected. RIP

Boyd, may have had controversy, but he still was responsible for some great cars and was a great advocate for Street Rods in the media. Sad to see any rodder taken to early. RIP
