For the first time in my life I have a paved driveway. It's 3 years old. I've been very carelfull not to do any thing with oil or gas on the blacktop. We have a poker game every Thursday night and I've noticed some small spots. They don't bother me because I know that will happen now and then. I went out last Friday and there was a spot about a foot in diameter. What I am wondering is there something I can do come spring to remove it, or at least make it look better. I know I might be a little anal but I would like to keep it looking good as long as I can. When you get done laughing let me know if you have an idea. Ha Ha

You probably won't be able to remove the spot. Asphalt is oil/tar based and pretty much treats oil drips on the basis of "Thank you I love oil." You might try putting what is know as Fuller's Earth (basically a coarse tan Kitty litter) over it an leaving for a few days, it might soak some of the oil up but don't count on it. It will pull virtually all oil spills/drips from concrete.

Then you need to send a memo to all your poker buddies and tell them not to park a drippy S.O.B. in your drive........ (grin)

I had same type driveway some years ago and found out the hard way not to refuel the lawn mower on driveway. The gas went thru before I could attemp to clean and a spot appro.1 foot round can right out.I had it patched and man said I would have to seal it which I did and helped a lot.

Go out and buy an old Harley and park it directly over the spot. People will admire the bike and recognize it as authentic because of the oil spot. Of course, bragging rights come free with the Harley.

My 20 year old drive is asphalt complete with spots. After a while they all pretty much fade away. Between the winter's ice, sun's heat, and scraping of tire chains from the tractor when plowing snow, nothing stains forever.

I don't have a Harly (wish I did, think I could talk the wife into getting one to cover the spot?), so I might have to park my steet rod over it. All my freinds and club members would think that is perfectly normal for one of my cars. Thanks for the suggestions. OL BEAR, I only use Windex for head colds and mild coughs. HA HA

Simple Green full strength will sometimes help but this is where the "Dolly option" comes into play. I was often sent to the shop with a bag of floor dry and a block of wood. You scrub the floor dry just like scrubbing the floor with a scrub brush. It will lighten the spot, sometimes remove it. When your arms get tired you can do the twist on the spot with your foot (plus get some extra exercise!) LOL

Try using some of that powder cement that you can buy in a small box or bag. Use it like oil dry, it works good on concrete and might do the same on blacktop. Sprinkle it on and drive over it a few times and then broom it off. It will be cheaper then the HARLEY.

maybe I am missing something but- Arent you going to re seal the driveway anyway?? Clean up the area with a degreaser and power washer and re seal it in the spring. It will look like new again.

I've got a jug of stuff called "driveway cleaner" got it as a door prize . The card attached says it was donated by "Auto Zone" I haven't tried it yet, since my driveway is nice and white (under 6" of fresh snow)

But you might go to Auto Zone and see if anyone has recommended it.

Jan,

Put a short shot of laundry detergent on the spot, scrub for 5 seconds, and hose it off. That should do it.
