I don't seem to have much luck searching the Discussion Forums, so I will ask in a new one. Has anyone had problems with Edelbrock's Endura Shine staining from gas or oil? I can't seem to get anything to clean the stain away. I even have what looks like a clear coat on the Endura Shine peeling off. So far no response from Edelbrock.

Thanks

Tom

Tom. I'd give Edelbrock another call. They're usually very helpful and stand behind their products. Not like them to not respond.

ENDURASHINE may be one of those real jokes played on consumers. The peeling you are seeing is powder coating which has been applied over what is sometimes called by platers as Faux Chrome. This type of imitation chrome looks great on many exterior trim surfaces; motorcycle nuts have even completely "chromed" a bike with this stuff. I don't think there is any form of paint, including powder coating, which is totally immune to being impregnated by fumes from gasoline. Anywhere there are even minute amounts of gasoline fumes there will be the creation of a varnish like substance that either damages everything it comes into contact with or at very best is a bitch to remove. Common spray carb cleaner will generally cut it, but it is also going to damage a powder coated surface.

If you pay a visit to Caswell Plating's web site you will find kits for creating this type of finish and info on how it is done.

Y'all don't forget now,...............Edelbrock manifolds are allergic to Holley carbs....................Makesum break out in what appears to be a leaking gasoline stain. But,......of course that CAN'T be it, cause Holleys don't leak. Right???

Dixie,.........The ole porch dog ain't purty, but he's been down most roads a time or two, plenty smart, ain't got too many flees and don't smell all that terrible. He won't get up to bite ya, but say somethin smart, pat him on the head and he'll draw blood. If your wrong, you'll be corrected and if your right, he's got your back. Other than most times he's got gas and has been known to raise his leg on some things he don't care for around here, he ain't half bad to have around. Reckon thats why we keep him.................

I do not have much staining on mine BUT it has chipped around some of the edges and boltholes. Not really impressed with the product.

To all that are thinking of buying Edelbrock's Endura Shine Carbs and Intakes. I received this OFFICIAL response from Edelbrock about the carburetor. They did offer to replace my intake, but if it continues to stain I don't see the sense in going to all of that work to change it out. Here is the response from Edelbrock:

We are not warranting carburetors that have stains/pealing within the air cleaner ring, the stains you are seeing are from the gas vapors, you will probably not be able to clean the stains off of the carburetor.

Needless to say, I politely told them that it was nice of them to put this disclaimer on their product BEFORE I spent $400 on the carb.

If you're air cleaner is big enough, nobody will notice the stains on the carb or the intake. LOL., Glad you brought this up though, cause I had been considering a new Endurahine intake. Think I will save my money for gas and just keep my stained Torker I, not pretty but gets the job done.

Yeah right Shine! They don't even want to tell you that it is going to turn color. Just give us your money and too bad. I guess I should post this under that vendor area.

If you remember I had a problem with my carburetor awhile back with gas leaks. I don't seem to have any stains on mine even after all the gas problems. It's an Endura Shine. I hope mine stays that way. Good luck

Tommy

Giving it some more thought it may be caused by a scratch on the surface that gas gets behind and stains under the coating you said is on it.

Tommy consider yourself lucky. Here is the latest response from Edelbrock when I asked if they have improved Endura Shine:

"We have not done anything with our coating to prevent staining, there is a clear coat, you need to be sure not to get any corrosive chemicals on the intake, like gas, carb cleaner, and coolant."

How do those apples taste? Don't get gas, coolant, or oil on it. What in the world is it doing on an engine of all places?????

Sorry I am done ranting and raving. Orphans your right that my air cleaner covers the majority of the ugliness, but I still have a line by a couple of screws where gas ran down the outside of the carb. Chalk it up to another learning experience.

That's funny Pat. It sure defeats the fun for me though. I sure like the looks of that car of yours Pat....you need to post some more pics of it for me like interior engine etc.

Funny Shine.....I can hear you laughing all the way up here. I wish I could be next to Vic when he does his next commercial about the great American made product that is next to none in quality.
