I see alot of the new tanks and cells only have the outlet come out of the top of the tank. Will the stock manual fuel pump on a 350 chevy work with this type of tank or would you need a electric pump.

Ron, the manual pump will work perfect. I had a new tank in my 31 sedan behind the rear seat which had top fittings for the pickup tube.

While on the subject of fuel tanks I would like to cover the safety thing again. Don't forget to vent the tank correctly. Use a roll over valve on the vent or loop it from the top of the tank to below the tank so in case you find yourself on the roof fuel does not spill out the vent. Didn't mean to steal your thread.

law says it has to be on top. good point willys on the vent. i use to have a diagram of it. the hose goes to the opposite side of the filler neck and down to just below the bottom so it will work if your on the roof or either side. tanks sends a check ball vent with their tanks,

Ron..way back in 1962, Federal Dept of Transportation said "no bottom fed tanks". In the event of a accident and the fuel line breaks, the gas will continue to flow and feed the fire.

Since the 1930s, manual, stock pumps have always been pullers...no problems. Chevy OEM pumps have 7 psi to carb. Electric pumps are pushers......most guys do not read the instructions so they don't work well.

We have used both mechanical and electric pumps on the 67 and they never starved the big carb, however no matter what we do to vent the darn thing it gives off fumes in the shop. The cell is new and has all the right fittings but maybe I am missing an easy fix- ideas? (BTW sorry to jump on this discussion but it sounds like you guys have more experience than I do)

if you smell fumes it is working right tammy. the vent is to stop from pulling a vacum in the tank and to let expanding gases out. it takes only a very small vent hole.

I guess my focus then would need to be on the cap?? The entire cell and cap is new but I suppose that doesn't always mean it is right.
