I am in the process of ordering a new hood for my 30 ford model A coupe from rootleib hoods. They asked me if I want to order it with the 32 ford hinge. I have the 32 ford grill frame, but can not picture what they are talking about. I have looked in their catalog, but the pictures are small and not very detailed. Has anyone gone through this process before that can show mw a detailed picture and shed some light. The book says the 32 hinge is better and does not chip the paint when opening and closing, but what does it look like?

the 32 hinge has a stainless strip up the middle where as the a model has an exposed hinge like the one on your car. They are near imposible to keep paint on. I would HIGHLY recommend that you go with the 32 hinge- unless of course you are going to a 3 pc hood. The 32 hinge will look much better. I am going to put a 4 piece hood with the 32 hinge on my model A when I get that far. p.s rootlieb is an excellent supplier in my book.

I had heard lots of talk about how much tweeking needs to be done to just about all the aftermarket hoods (including Rootleib), but I was quite pleased with the one I got. Mine was a 3-piece from Rootleib and needed just a tiny bit of tweeking (bending) to match the shape of the grille shell, which was also aftermarket. Of course, maybe a 4-piece hood needs more work. I can see where adding the hinge down the middle, either 1930 style or 1932 style, would add to the alignment problems. I just liked the look without the hinge.

I bought a Rootleib one piece top for my 30 truck with a 32 grill shell. It fit very good. Then I went & moved the cab back 3 3/4" & I made a new hood from scratch. That was a nightmare!!!!!!!

Man, talk about quick response...you guys are good... Ok I am sold on the 32 hinge, but what do you mean it is ready for body work? That defeats the whole purpose of buying a new hood. I've got one now that has waves in it.

Imo opinion it would be worth the swap just for the hinge difference if nothing else. they look much better.

I agree that the Model A hinge is a PIA. Not one of Henry's better ideas. Might want to consider a 3-piece hood with no center hinge at all. That would, of course, require new hood hinging hardware for the sides, but if I can manage to install it and get it to work properly, anybody can do it. LOL

Have used many rootlieb hoods in the past (five last year) Most are 4pc. for 32's. Have been very happy with the fit and quality of there product. As shine mentioned there will be a little metal work, usually on the ends where the hem is. A little hammer and dolly work will cure this easily. One suggestion would be to measure your cowl and have rootlieb build to that so it fits nice at the belt lines. Would also agree the '32 style center hinge id the only way to go.

No. You have to purchase them seperate. I get ours from Vintique or Drake. The latches on the smooth sided hood are no longer available from anyone that I can find.

Wish I had saw your reply before I ordered the hood. Went with the Rootlieb with 32 hinge / 3 rows on the side. Ended up ordering it from Wescotts. They wanted 475.00 for the hood and 10.00 to drop ship it. That was the best deal I could find. Even Rootlieb wanted 465.00 and about 55.00 to ship. Rootlieb just took an increase in late January 08. Big bucks. So, I have a 30 model A hood that is coming off the car for sale if someone is looking for one. Got a few waves and dings, but no rust. also have a set of 30 model A coupe rear fenders / steel, that have been frenched at the ends. (cut off). Thanks for the help with the hood guys!

Just to let you guys know, I ordered the 4 peice hood with the 32 hinge from Wescotts. They dropped shipped it to me. The hood came in PERFECT condition. Not one dent, ding wave or anything like . I am very happy with the hood. My only concern is what mounts at each end and why I wasn't told when I ordered the hood that I would need additional hardware to mount it.

After looking at my wescotts cat. , I see the hinge brackets for the 32 style hinge. Before I go and order these, does any one have a set they would like to sell?
